Not quite what I meant, AG! I meant “no fear, no favour” for everyone, not just me! If you see something that needs a response, you should never let it go because you’re worried how the person will react (no fear), or because you get on with them (no favour). Sometimes people will disagree, even be offended by decisions, but when you need to put your “mod” hat on, you’re doing it for everyone.

Luckily, you should find the times you need to in with regular posters are few and far between.

Last night, I walked into the room where our desktop computer is, where my wife was putting the finishing touches on an $88 order for Amazon.com. Just then, the lightbulb went on over my head, and right as my wife was about to click the “order” button, I dove clear across the room and swatted the mouse out of her hand.* Luckily, I was able to stop her in time, so that I could add the Beatles Bible link ( ) to the $88 Amazon order, providing the Beatles Bible with a monetary reward. And the reason that I remembered that Beatles Bible/Amazon link is because Ahh Girl, the newly-installed moderator, sent me a handy reminder of it recently. So… thanks, Ahhh Girl. We are gonna get our Amazon order, the website gets a little spiff, and you will have a new, virtual corner office here at the Beatles Bible. Enjoy the view, you’ve earned it! :)

*Based on actual events, but somewhat fictionalized for dramatic effect.

New feature: birthdays! Add yours by editing your profile (choose the Edit Profile bit then fill in the Birthday field). It’ll be visible to others in the three days leading up to it.

New feature: attachments! When writing a new message, look for the Attachments button (alongside Smileys, Options, Poll).]

Images allowed: jpg, jpeg, gif, png

Media allowed: swf, dcr, mov, qt, mpg, mp3, mp4, mpeg, avi, wmv, wm, asf, asx, wmx, wvx, rm, ra, ram

Other files allowed: txt, rtf, doc, pdf

I might change this at some point if it gets abused. Bear in mind everything uploaded goes on my server, which I’m responsible for. So nothing dodgy please (I can view all uploaded files).

Edit: some file types no longer allowed. Let’s stick to images.

New feature: mentions! If you @ tag a person (test: @DrBeatle) it should leave an on-screen note for them.

Not sure how it handles spaces in usernames. Test: @Ahhh Girl
OK, it works with spaces, but you have to start typing a name and let the autocomplete thing appear.

New feature: thanks! You can thank someone if their message helps you. The option should be next to the PM button on each of their messages.

I got it! Also I’m glad to see the Thanks button, it’s a feature on the Steve Hoffman forums I quite like so glad to see it here now :)

EDIT: not seeing the thanks button yet… @Joe

If anyone is concerned about putting their actual birth year into their profile, will it be o.k. if they just use 2014 as the year?

I’ll test the space thing (hahahahahaha! I didn’t catch that until after I wrote it!)

@Into the Sky with Diamonds

Ah, when I started typing his name, I got a pop up that let me select his name.

EDIT:I see that Joe edited his post above to try the space thing. But, since I think ISWD will enjoy my post, I’ll leave it.

I like these new features a lot, particularly the ‘thanks’ one. That’ll come in handy at times :)

You could, but it won’t let you have dates that haven’t taken place. So you might as well choose the right day and month from, say, 2000.

I haven’t seen the birthdays in action yet, so I don’t know if it displays actual years or just says “It’s X’s birthday on Tuesday/today!”

@DrBeatle – you can’t thank yourself, so look for the button on someone else’s message. If it’s still not showing it might be a caching thing, though it appeared for me straight away.

Oh right. Looks like it might take people a while to see them then. If you’re on a desktop machine, could you try ctrl+f5 (Windows) or command+refresh (Mac)? Hopefully that’d fix things.

Hmmm no that doesn’t seem to be working for me. I’m sure it’ll kick in soon if you’ve already got it.

Is whatever uploaded or attached capable of being downloaded by someone else? If someone ups a text or mp3 file will someone else be able to download it (so basically file sharing), which would create a whole load of copyright issues?

Additionally what is the ranking information about?

I’ve put my birthday into my profile, but you can’t see it if you click on my name. So it must be just for the alert thing.

It took 2014 for me when I did my edit. Weird. “making me feel like I’ve never been born“… But, yeah, you all are probably right that it just shows the day and not the year.

That’s not quite what I meant, actually. What I meant was that when you click on somebody’s profile, say yours, I can’t see your birthdate (not the day, month or year), although you say you put it in.

Sorry about that. I was about as clear as mud on who I was replying to. I was actually replying to Joe about it not taking dates that are in the future.

EDIT:more weirdness ensues. I, Ahhh Girl, am the one who is writing this post, but it is showing up like FFE is writing it.
