I do have an assignment for the newcomers, if I may, one that their peers apparently have overlooked… could you please remove the second post of the ‘Yoko Ono’ thread?… I can’t think of ANY forum that would allow such trash to be tolerated… we’re not talking about a difference of opinion here but pure downright hatred that needs to be abolished… and while you’re at it, could you please consider removing the junk thread in the ‘All Together Now ‘ section about the lowlife who actually thanked this Yoko Hater for their less than one cents worth?…:-)

We mods do everything as a team, and we newcomers in particular err on the side of deferring to the wisdom of our more experienced elders. If Joe, Zig, mmm, and AG have seen fit to allow someone’s one cents worth to remain on the forum, then I see no reason to question their judgement. After all, we’re moderators, not editors.
And I personally object to your referring to William Shears Campbell, who is not here at the moment to defend himself, as a lowlife. I’ve had many pleasant conversations with him here on the Forum and he is an honourable soul; furthermore, if I recall, he’s rather fond of Yoko. I don’t know what reason he may have had to thank that post, if he meant to at all — accidents do happen — but it is certainly no reason to throw out our only way of remaining connected with him as he embarks on his adventures in the real world. If you don’t want to read the thread in question, you don’t have to.

We’re not going to do retrospective clean-ups of very old threads. Many years ago we had some problems with teenagers running their mouths at every opportunity. Thankfully we’re in a better place now.
If someone posted those sorts of comments now we’d absolutely challenge them, but I’m not sure they should be censored/deleted unless they’re racist, libellous etc. This is a forum which has always attracted different personalities and diverse opinions. My preference is to challenge rather than suppress. Which brings me on to…

I’m genuinely unsure how serious you are about this. If I’m understanding correctly, you’re asking us to delete a thread by William Shears Campbell which you consider unworthy of the forum. Furthermore, you appear to be calling him a lowlife for thanking MrBig for a Yoko Ono post. It feels a little hypocritical that in the same breath you’re throwing a term of abuse at WSC while taking umbrage at MrBig for behaving similarly to YO.

Offline So, one voice has been absent from responding to this. However, on Mondays, I and a couple of others, are able to email @William Shears Campbell (think he’s back before the @expires, it’s close), and he and I have started swapping a few emails on forum gossip so he doesn’t walk in completely blind in a few weeks since things have changed since last he was here.
And I had to decide whether to get his reaction to @Billy Rhythm’s post. First off I didn’t mention his thanks, I just told him that among things happening was BR’s request for a post that was approaching ten years old to be deleted, quoted him the post, and then asked his thoughts.
This is his reply, appearing with his approval, when unaware he had thanked it:
Uhh considering that my morning alarm is the song Cambridge 1969 I think a lot of my companions would agree with that statement. But in reality Yoko isn’t near as bad as Heather Mills, I’ll vote to delete it.
So, he wasn’t a great fan of the post. I then told him about the “thank”, and BR’s suggestion about his thread, and he wanted to say this on his “thanks” appearing on the post:
[snip] …my stance on the matter: I actually vaguely remember reading that post a while back, but I don’t think I would have thanked it on purpose. I do remember how easy it was or still is to accidentally thank things. I recall times I’d look back on posts that I had thanked and didn’t remember ever thanking them or even intending to thank them. Then you can’t unthank posts so…
He also wanted to say to those who spoke up for him:
I’m glad y’all got my back while I’m out doing the good work. Thanks. I’ll see you all again on the forum shortly.

I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years… how incredible.
Interesting to see that his statements confirm what we thought and that he accidently thanked it. Such a simple mistake can cause such major argument!
