@Joe will be able to answer more specifically and accurately but my understanding is that the polls were removed to see if they would result in the forum being quicker – and it did. Whether they come back again is another matter.
Personally I’d rather have a quicker forum but generally, I’m in the minority with this kind of thing.
I found the phpBB forums I tend to use are faster than this one while still having things like polls. Though they also are bigger so eh. Though this is the only forum like this I’ve seen.

Yes, sorry, polls were one of the things I had to remove to make the forum operate at a tolerable speed. I didn’t realise all the old ones would disappear. Unfortunately I don’t think they’ll be coming back – it’s not worth slowing down the whole thing for everyone.

Does anyone else sort of miss the “Preview” button? I found that it gave me some piece of mind knowing that my post wouldn’t look ?u?????os ?o s??? ???l.
It’s not a ridiculous tragedy if it doesn’t come back or anything (the Thanks feature was really the only one I couldn’t do without), but it was nice.
EDIT: Point proven. 
Also, @AppleScruffJunior, I didn’t particularly notice any out-of-the-ordinary slowdowns either.

Offline Tbh I don’t think I ever actually used the preview button. The Edit button and the Thank button (and the smiley button and the attachments button) are the buttons that I rely on most.

I miss it. Sometimes I hold my breath until the post actually goes through wondering if I am going to have to spend time re-opening and editing it.

Offline With this much needing to be cut for the forum to work well, I think moving off simple press might be the best solution. Feels like putting ducktape on a holey submarine.
Or maybe there is an upgrade or different version that could increase site ability.

There’s no issue with the site per say imo, it still runs perfectly fine, but I do see where you are coming from. Something to consider if the site starts running slowly.

Offline BowieBible doesn’t have a forum (as much as I wish it did). Ultimately it’s @Joe’s call, and I’m under the impression that he wants to keep off-topic musical artist threads shut down — if any of them were keepers in his eyes, you’d think it’d be Bowie, but justice demands no special treatment to Starmen or anyone else.
