I would definitely second that, I feel like trying out the speed with thanks is something worth doing – it is definitely my number one feature that I want back, so I’d be interested to see how much faster/slower it is with/without it. I think a difference of 1 or 2 seconds is one that isn’t too significant…
edit: I’ve just noticed it also seems to have deleted all the old thanks…

Offline Eh, I’m ok with thanks gone. They were permanent and I’d rather have people either post their agreement/thanks/get into the debate rather than just silently thanking then dipping out.
The thing I’d want most back is html editor. Quotes have problems where you can’t quote a message that is quoting a message properly. I can use html editor to fix it.
One thing that I found slowed the forum for me was embedded videos.

Offline @Starr Shine?, the Quick Tags editor just made it easier by giving you little buttons to insert HTML tags, but you can still use them if you switch to ‘Plain Textarea’ in which you have to type them all out yourself.

Offline HTML editer was a happen medium. Though why not instead put html back and get rid of Plain Textarea.

Can you use the < > source code button instead?
I’ve restored Thanks. I did try it yesterday and the speed hit seemed to be the greatest of all the add-ons, so I removed it again. I appreciate the appreciation for it, though, so I’ll monitor the situation and try to find other things that will offset the lag.

While I do notice a slight lag with the thanks compared to earlier today without it, it’s probably not much more than a few seconds.

Offline Just a heads-up, there’s a major upgrade of Simple Press which I’ve been putting off, but I’ll probably do tomorrow morning (UK time, when most in the US are asleep). They’ve rewritten a lot of the underlying code which will hopefully be more efficient. It’s quite a major upgrade and will involve updating the theme (skin) and plugins too.
The forum will be in maintenance (read-only) mode shortly before I start the upgrade, so hopefully nobody’s posts will be lost if I need to roll back to an earlier version.
I’ll try to complete the work as soon as possible, but there may be some teething troubles. If things are broken I’ll do my best to fix them ASAP. I’ll start the work approximately 22 hours after this post.
Edit: I just did the upgrade process on a test installation. Everything updated OK, it took about 30 minutes (I was documenting it as I went, so should be quicker tomorrow). It didn’t seem to bring any obvious speed boost but at least nothing seems to be broken. So I’m cautiously optimistic about tomorrow.

Offline It’s very pleasing that the forum is quicker as it was such a drag, a well-known drag, rude things were definately said about it whilst having to wait whilst it felt like the forum needed to get the paper bag on its knee and breathe into it for 10 seconds before it loaded the new page.
Personally, I could do without a lot of the features like thanks, as long as folk can the basics like post, quote, link, add video’s etc then the rest is secondary. Far rather quickness of speed than being able to push a button to say thanks – if required post your thanks and build upon the conversation.

Would have to ask everyone else to know and I’m not doing that.
It’s certainly faster for me (i did write about hamsters after this but it may have been offensive to animal lovers so it was deleted).
