I just discovered that you can do a search for a three letter word using the forum search box. That restriction seems to be lifted. I did a -topic titles only- search for the word “ram” and it worked. Of course, you get any word that has “ram” as a part of it, but it does help find all the threads on the album RAM.

That helps with your and everyone else’s search for ‘New’ so must be good.

@Joe, we have a new update to the search function and i like it.  Looks and works so much better than not having a clue the context of the post results.

Another new addition is the option to include blog posts in your searches.

Oh cool, glad it’s helpful. The search update was rolled out earlier today but I didn’t test it (typical me). I can change the wording of blog posts to something more obvious – Features, perhaps.

I see the wording is changed to “Include features and articles”. Thank you. Much better.

Some programs will permit spaces as part of a search (notably MS Word) so that a space before and after a three letter word would return results for only that word and not for all words that contain those letters in that order.  It doesn’t seem to work here, but it’s not a bad tip generally.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

I think it is a great idea to create links to the forum from the main site, @Joe. It’s a good way to draw those looking at the site into the forum, and has already started some forum discussions on songs that we haven’t talked about.

One question, once a discussion has started on a thread, should the mods (@Ahhh Girl, @meanmistermustard, @Zig) be deleting your holding posts when a conversation starts? Your holding posts seem to be staying in place so far.

Our current information from Joe is that he may decide to delete them if a conversation sparks up. We await his further instructions. Of course, if he decides that will be the definitive course of action, the mods are happy to delete those posts for him if we see the conversation first.

Yeah, I’m happy for the holding info post to be removed. When I’ve found older threads about songs I’m making those the definitive links and not keeping my own data (composer, recording dates etc).

I’ve just run a few updates to the forum software. Normally these are intended to bring improvements, but occasionally things get broken. If you spot anything please let me know.

The most notable change is larger tooltips when you hover over links (not sure whether anything happens on mobile devices). I don’t really have control over this but I hope it’s not too intrusive/annoying. If it is I’m sure we’ll stop noticing after a few days. Fixed errors.

So far on mobile, I am only seeing a few changes.

The New/Updated Topics and the Actions drop down menus used to sit side-by-side. Now the Actions menu sits slightly above the other one.

The icons for making a new post, thank, quote, smileys, preview, cancel, save, add watch, etc. are larger – very nice.

I’m getting some oddities on PC/Chrome. If I click on someone’s name it jumps to the bottom of the page (it does the same with mod tools too, but most people can’t see those). Firefox seems OK but IE is a bit wonky (not sure if that’s a new thing though). Am testing. Anyone else having problems with Chrome?

I won’t be near Chrome until much later today…if at all.

But, I must say having the options on the mod toolbar bigger and brighter on mobile is a wonderful change.

Seems to be fixed now. I switched to a default theme then back to this custom one and it looks OK now. Not sure if that’s reset the mobile changes too! Sorry if it has.

It seems that the PM box is now organized by date of last sent message instead of first sent message which is really nice
