Maybe I’m wrong, but in the “Day after day: the Beatles’ history” part of the site, there’s no references to John’s and other people’s death. I was looking for Stuart Sutcliffe death but I can’t find anything. Then I look for John’s death (December 8th, 1980) and nothing too!
I found about Brian Epstein death, though.
PS: This site is gold, man! I love it!
I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

I think Joe is slowly working his way through dates. Think about it – there are so many it could take a VERY long time……and not to mention all the other things he’s trying to get up-to-speed with. I sometimes wonder if he does any proper work !!!!

Thanks MJB. Yes, that’s the case. This site’s been online for just under two years (my domain renewal comes up later this month), and in that time there’s been… a fair amount of content added (I once worked out it was well over 100,000 words, the size of an average novel, but it’ll have gone up significantly since then). I’m not done yet. If there are gaps it’s because there’s just one of me, and I have a day job and long-suffering wife to spend the occasional hour with
The history section has most key dates from the 1930s to The Beatles’ break-up in 1970, plus a few random dates thereafter. My focus is on getting The Beatles’ history itself fully furnished (that’s all the live dates, recording sessions, TV/radio appearances etc). I’ve currently done everything up to June 1963, although for now I’ve missed out 1961 and 1962. I’ll go back to them after I’ve done the other years, but I got bored of writing about tiny gigs across England and finding map locations for no-longer-extant ballrooms and theatres.
Eventually, if I’m still alive, I’ll consider doing a full day-by-day up to the present day providing I can find reliable sources. Lennon’s death in 1980 is absolutely something I’m going to add, though, sometime this year prior to the anniversary. Thanks for the suggestion about Stuart Sutcliffe’ death – I’m not sure why I missed out that one, though it’s probably because I’ve skipped past 1962 for now. I’ll add it to my endless to-do list

Do you designate hours then or just do it as you feel fit?

At the start I was doing a little before work in the morning, then quite a bit in the evenings. That’s how I completed the /songs/ features in about seven months, which looking back was quite a feat! After that I took my foot off the gas a little as I was feeling burnt out. These days I try and write at least one page daily, or catch up at weekends if I fall behind schedule, but I don’t worry too much about it. Normally I can rattle off an article or two in my lunch break, then get home and do a bit more. Depends really. Clearly I have no life!
The impetus really is to get it all out of the way if/before my wife and I start a family. I’m not intending to abandon the site, but everyone I know says everything changes once you have kids. If I can complete the history up to 1970 in the next two years I’ll feel happy to have achieved what I intended to, and it won’t feel like an abandoned project if real life gets in the way.

Right. I’ve had a really depressing afternoon. At least I’ll never have to write these articles again.

I know, I just wanted to get them out of the way. You’re welcome.
Now, back to July 1963…

Because he was cremated on 10 December and I haven’t written that page (yet). There’s a lot of stuff before and after that day that’s worth writing about, including the reaction of the other Beatles, but for now I’ll leave it as it is.
Thanks to those who left corrections – I’m amending the pages now.

I actually meant the part where he was taken to Roosevelt Hospital and pronounced dead there etc. Maybe that ticked over the midnight hour?

I’ve read it Joe – page 2 and all that!
Glad you got that real spooky bit at the end about Jack Douglas. Now, perhaps Jack is just trying to create headlines (I say that without malice mind) but what DID John tell him I wonder? OK, we’ll never know, but it’s a nasty cliff-hanger that will be unsolved…..

Glad you found it. I did try and make the multiple pages a bit more prominent a while ago, hence the boxes around the numbers. Maybe I can do more to highlight them. The longer articles tend to be the more interesting ones, and it would be a shame if people didn’t find all the content.
I think Jack Douglas has been a little more willing to talk about the Double Fantasy /Milk And Honey sessions recently, and there’s bound to be plenty of interviews later this year. We’ll see what he says. It was really tantalising of him to reveal that he’d destroyed those tapes and not to say what was on them. I wonder if he regrets it now.
EDIT I’ve just moved the page number boxes so they’re a bit more prominent. They were beneath the bookmarking buttons on the page, which might have hidden them a little.

I think I was caught up in the emotion of reading that I failed to see another page…..
And yes, it will be THIRTY years come December. Bloody hell – that’s frightening

Joe, can I please make an article suggestion? I know you’re working your way through chronologically now, but there are a lot of references in the song articles to John’s Rolling Stone and Playboy interviews. Those would be very useful to have on the site, you could probably copy and paste it from the internet somewhere.
Of course, this isn’t a demand, just a suggestion…
