I suppose I should introduce myself! I'm SomewhereMan (I can't believe that wasn't taken). I'm 16, and live just outside of Columbus, Ohio. My first Beatles song was “Yellow Submarine “, as ar as I can recall, and I was vaguely aware of big hits like “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds ” and “Hey Jude “. I didn't really get into the Beatles until last year, when I was reintroduced to them by one of my Internet friends. I followed the link to this site from the bottom of a Wiki page, and… here I am!

Exactly the same story for me. Except  I don't live in Ohio.

The Inner Light said:

Oh, a question: In the past I've dated guys who wern't Beatles fans (maybe very tangentially, but not solid fans.)  Those relationships never went well, I'm thinking it's because we didn't share this essential ideology.  Do you think it would be snobbish to really just want to date someone who really likes the Beatles?  It wouldn't be the only reason to date someone, but it feels as important as so many other defining things (for instance, there's a guy who's interested in me who isn't really aware of who John Lennon is/was.  That feels like a pretty big thing since the Beatles have been a huge presence in all ways of my life, since I was very tiny.)

Thanks for the advice!

I think it's always nice to meet someone who likes a lot of the same things as you do, but it's equally important that they treat you well, respect your boundaries, and communicate often and openly. If I met a guy who liked The Beatles but was obsessive about The Who, that'd be fine, because I like both groups as well. I know I couldn't date anyone who outright said “I don't like music,” because that's just like saying “Hey, world! I'm dead inside!” to me. I don't think I could obviously date someone who outright told me he didn't like The Beatles, and if I played them to shut that crap off. I think what I'm getting at here is that if someone belittled me for liking them, it'd be more about the belittling than not liking them which would turn me off the guy. In your case, if the guy seems nice, why not give him a chance? It may be that you introduce him to The Beatles, and he ends up really enjoying them.

Please allow me to introduce myself…

Have been observing the 70th birthday of John Lennon , and unfortunately, soon, the 30th anniversary of his death, and found this site.  The title definitely intrigued.  Outstanding forum!

Walls And Bridges was one of the first, perhaps the first, rock album I bought.  This was in a town called Rawlins, Wyoming, about 10,000 people lived there.  I liked Whatever Gets You Thru The Night very much, had heard on the radio top 40.  For that reason and others, it is still my favorite John Lennon album, although I am a big fan of all his others too.  Plastic Ono Band is a masterpiece, one of the most beautiful angry and angrily beautiful sets of songs ever set to vinyl.

Was one of those misfit kids who didn't do sports, hunt, and all the other stuff that kept a young male from being beat up in Wyoming.  So John Lennon appealed to me, very early.  It was an escape from a lot of dull, bad s**t and an embrace of exciting, good aspects of life and the world.

Also liked Ringo, especially his Ringo album, and recently saw him on PBS doing some new songs that were quite moving and real–songs about Liverpool.

Have always respected Paul M. rather than really liked him and his solo music.  But recently was very impressed to see him performing at the White House and praising President Obama.

Usually it is very, very difficult for me to listen to John Lennon 's music because I tend to get depressed and angry over his murder, which still hits me very hard, but lately I have been listening a lot, again.  It is worth it.  No one in popular music has his charisma, presence, and guts these days.  And nobody sounds like him.  There is something about that voice, it is like Brando's acting or Ali's boxing.

I'm kind of new I guess you have seen my posts.  Music is one of the main things that I like.  My favorite Beatle is a-hard-days-night-george-10.  I have an youtube page that I keep tabs on from time to time.

http://www.youtube.com/user/edge8861 The username has nothing to do with what is on most of the playlists or well the playlists being shown anyway.

This is probably one of the most understated introductions I've ever seen. 🙂 I'm new here, myself, but I can still say “Welcome!”

Hi StarWisher.

What are the words that flash across your Avatar? They are too small for my tired old eyes to read.

And welcome.

I KNOW! I got the avatar off one of the recommended sites and it looked like a normal enough size but (like Paul in Help !) the avatar (one from Help !) got shrunk too small. (So if any of you vets out there know how (or if) this can be fixed…um, Help ? If it can't I'll just go shopping again…)

All it says is “But the very next day…”

And thanks, much Zig!

Hi, i am Marcus from Germany, born when the Beatles played in Hamburg, where I live now. I have been a Beatle fan ever since I listened to my dads LPs. But I became a hardcore fan since about a year when I rediscovered playing guitar and realized how great most of the songs are. I read, watched and listened to “Anthology”, read “The Beatles and Philosophy. Nothing you can think that can´t be thunk” (great lennonish title), read the John Lennon biography by Philip Norman and I am currently working myself through “The complete Beatles Recording Sessions”. I am looking for a good MyCartney biography, and I hope there is enough Beatles material to be discovered for the years to come!

Oh In almost forgot: I play guitar and the best book for that i found so far is “The Beatles Complete Chord songbook”. So much to discover…

Hi, I'm Kate. I'm 18 from New York. And the I'm a Beatles fan!

I first found this site when I was rather curious the types of drugs the guys had taken. When I found this site, I grew very excited. I absolutely love it. The Beatles inspired my love of the 1960s. I became a fan in 2009 after watching Across The Universe . I know not many Beatle fans actually liked the movie but I loved it and opened up my eyes to Beatles music. I haven't turned back since.

I'm Tom, from Reading in England, and I am very surprised that this username wasn't taken. I'm 15.

My dad got me into the Beatles when we used to go on driving holidays. He'd be playing Endless Summer, Highway 61 Revisited, Bowie's singles collection, and my favourite, 1, constantly. Actually, at first I hated Love Me Do to Ticket To Ride , and I didn't realise the rest was Beatles (except Yellow Submarine ofc.). I'd always belt out the ending to Hey Jude , and I remember loving The Ballad Of John And Yoko . However, I'd constantly be asking my dad questions about the Beatles- have they put out any songs recently? Why did they break up? Are they going to ever get back together? Why did he get shot? I can't remember pressing further, but the breakup and Lennon's assassination fascinated me.

Like most people, I was gradually introduced to more Beatles songs as I grew older. Last year, I met some people who encouraged me to listen to their music more. The only album my dad owned on CD was 1 (I believe he has Sgt. Pepper 's on vinyl). I got really into 1 for about a month, then went out and bought myself Revolver . It blew me away, so I asked for more albums for Christmas, and then my birthday. I'm now hooked.

I told her I didn’t
