I know it might seem unnecessary, but hey: I’d like to chat with some of you in real time so as to get to know you better, and while there are threads for that I did wonder if maybe a quaint little discord chatroom on the side would be too much to ask? Obviously it would have to be something others are interested in, so I can’t speak for everyone. Given how the site seems to not have too much traffic at once though there shouldn’t be too much upkeep to worry about.
It’s not really needed, of course. For all i know we could have a chat room somewhere or have had one in the past that went over like a lead balloon, but I found nothing in the search bar (provided I used it correctly. Sorry if not.) So…what say you guys?
Honestly? I think it’d be fun to have. It would enable us to voice chat as well if we saw fit and that would make things a hell of a lot easier for me personally. I have cerebral palsy (MattWatchingWHEELS, Get it?……it…Its a….it’s a double meani—) Anyway, uh, it makes typing a bit harder when i do posts at length. Now, im NOT saying the forum has to stop for me. Im just saying that that would be ONE small thing that would help a discord be of use. I’m not asking for special treatment so please, if you don’t see it as a good idea it’s fine. That wasn’t the reason I brought it up.
That said, I know people would still have to run it, but I mean…heck, I could make it myself if that would be something people were interested in. 
Just an idea, no more no less.

Offline IIRC someone tried to start a chatroom type thing before I joined (Pineapplerecords, maybe?) but I don’t know if one was actually created. I think there was a thread for it, lemme see if I can find it.
Edit: Yep, here it is.
It’s definitely an interesting idea– I’m not too keen on it myself (talking to people in real time = scary 
), but I’m sure plenty of others feel differently.

Ah, so there was interest…how interesting!
Given that the thread is over a year old though, I don’t think it wise to bump it as i’m not too sure what the rules are in regards to necro-posting.
I’ll just say that in the interest of what @Joe said in the original: Yes, the idea wouldn’t be to infringe on anyone. At the most maybe we’d call it the “Unnoficial” BB Discord if we mentioned it at all I assume. Certainly we’d plug it, i’m sure! 
As for being scared, thats fine. The beauty of chatting is you can do so at your own pace and i’d never begrudge anyone the freedom to sit in a corner and watch. That’s what I do in larger rooms, but this wouldn’t be too many people (USIIIIIIIIING DISCORD LINES!) to feel small around, I don’t think. We’re all friends!

I’m not averse to it, but my mum would be and she works from home so I rarely get time to myself…
The rules for thread bumping is that we prefer pre existing threads (no matter how old) to be brought back from the dead, rather than create new ones, so we can have all the discussion on one topic in one place.

As for time, thats ok! Im not affected by timezones so i’m pretty much always here. Plus, chats get saved on Discord so you can respond whenever.

Nope! Free. Like I said, I could set a very basic one up right now. 🙂
Then from there you title the different rooms and such and add all the clever bits…still free but, point being just setting it up takes little to no effort

Offline Well, this may be difficult to continue seeing as the topic may be locked/merged but I could very quickly whip up a basic server and we all could build from there as a group. It wouldn’t be flashy to start. Just something to demo and show people how it works.

The Beatles Bible isn’t copyrighted (a trademark would be more apt, in any case). “The Beatles” is a trademark owned by Apple Corps, and I’m already skirting the issue by building a non-official brand around the name – hence the disclaimers on every page. They seem pretty cool about fan-related things though.
That said, the BB *is* my brand, and has been for a decade. I’ve shut down a couple of Twitter impersonators in the past, as it’s fairly easy to prove that I’ve been using this identity across a range of services.
That’s not really relevant to this, but as a matter of good faith I would ask you to not use the BB for any third-party endeavours. Go for a generic Beatles chat thing, though – it sounds good!
@MattWatchingWheels, remember that we have the Thread Search Thread where you can ask if a thread already exists on a topic. Go ahead and bookmark that link if you like. As The Hole Got Fixed said, we like to keep all the posts on a theme together as much as we can, so reviving old threads is fine – just not THAT ONE thread about who sang the ahhhs in A Day In The Life
