As I have posted here, the George Harrison website has recently announced a contest to make the official music video for George’s song What Is Life! 
The top five entries (selected by Universal Music & Genero.tv) will be the proud winners of the new George Harrison Apple Years Box Set, and lucky winner number 1 will get $5,000 on top of that! The top video is chosen by Dhani and Oliva from the top five.
I’m going to try and put together a video for it, although I’m sure real filmmakers are aware of this opportunity, giving me little chance. Is anyone else going to attempt to make a video? Winning this would be amazing… Directing a former Beatle‘s official music video! And a great song too! If you are thinking about doing this, you can read more about the contest and requirements here.
Apples to anyone who’s going to enter, and good luck! I’m sure this’ll be fun…

That’s what I was hoping for! 
Those who aren’t gonna enter can discuss it here and help those doing it with ideas. The ones doing it can share their ideas, and hopefully the others won’t steal them! 
@AppleScruffJunior I understand what you mean. In my mind I could imagine some fruity romantic video with a couple frolicking around, but that’s not something I would want to make, and not something that I think would win. The only real idea I have so far is for the intro, I’m going to film my right hand lower on the guitar playing the opening lick, my left hand doing that on the neck, and then sync it to the music. From there I don’t know where to go yet, and I don’t know if having that as the intro means I need to have an instrument in it again later for it to be relevant. But I guess I’ll figure it out! Especially with help from those who want to give it!

Offline Myself, if I knew how to do these things, I’d avoid the straight love song interpretation, and – sorry, Kite – I’d avoid any performance element other than clips of George doing it.
I’d hook onto the spiritual interpretation, while mixing it with the struggle of the material world. Flashes of Eastern spiritually intercut with images of the destitute and the rich, the broken-hearted and those filled with joy, those caught in war and those living in peace. I’d make it about the contrasts between the lives people live.
Probably a crap idea, but all I have.

That’s in fact a great idea and very true to George. Since Olivia and Dhani are to judge, they’ll choose something that rings true with George’s life; he was philosophical alright but lived far from being called an ascetic. And so the video can be about how a person balances his/her materialistic side with something he/she strongly believes in and happens to be an exact opposite.
Confession: Its only now that I’ve listened to the song. I remember hearing it in passing on a Beatles playlist sometime on the internet. The tune is very upbeat so it’ll be difficult to capture the theme.

Offline SFF That’s a good idea, if we come across an great idea, we don’t want people not on the forum to have access to it just in case.
@Ron Nasty That’s an amazing idea, and I really wouldn’t want anyone other than George, or the many other musicians performing on that song, in the video either. But, as I probably should’ve explained above, you need to film everything you use in the video. No stock footage, nothing public domain (as they can’t get the rights to it if there are no rights), and nothing belonging to another filmmaker unless you have written permission to use it, and that pretty much just means anyone you might be working with, because I doubt any professional will give you permission to use their footage.
That’s what restricts the whole project and makes it pretty difficult. If I could use other footage I’d already have a few ideas, but I just don’t know what to film!
@Starr Shine? I doubt I’ll win, but if I do, it’d really help with bills, moving is tough. However if I had any left this would probably be where it would go. Maybe with the mono vinyl box set.

And for inspiration, you could read the Wikipedia page and see George’s thoughts about the song and see if any of the covers have a music video

Either that or buy books….and records…yes lots of books and records

And yeah, scenic shots are what I was going to incorporate in part, but from reading the rules on the site, I feel like they don’t want a nature video set to music.

I don’t know!!! That’s exactly the problem. I think I’ve mentioned all the issues here now, but maybe you want to read through the rules in case I missed something.
@She_is_leaving_home You should make note of these issues too if you’re going to make a video.
If anyone has I ideas, we’re all ears!
