The perfect Scouse accent. He had a fairly thick accent but talked nice and slow and deliberate, it’s just a pleasure to listen to him.

Came across this 2014 interview with Sam Brown where she talks about the Concert for George…
… Sam is not just your average 49 year-old householder. There is a hint of this from a guitar and ukulele resting in the corner of the lounge. Further evidence is the magnificent hand-bound book Sam passes me to look at while she serves the evening meal. For this is the commemorative album presented by Olivia Harrison to every artist performing at the 2002 ‘Concert for George’ at the Royal Albert Hall. Sam was the only solo female vocalist in the rock section of the concert. Eric Clapton was musical director and Jeff Lynne oversaw recording of the event, which took place one year to the day after George Harrison died in November, 2001. It was an historic occasion in rock’n’roll.
“That was definitely a high spot of my career,” Sam tells me later as she settles in a comfy sofa with a glass of red wine. “I felt so honoured to be included. This event finally convinced me I had the respect of some of the greats of rock music, people I really admire. Eric and Jeff were so kind to me. Until then, despite all my achievements, I’d always lacked a little confidence.”
The line-up was spectacular. As well as Eric Clapton and Jeff Lynne others included Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr , Dhani Harrison as well as Klaus Voorman, Billy Preston, Gary Booker, Albert Lee, Jim Capaldi, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar plus Jools Holland, who accompanied Sam.
Although Sam had sung at the Albert Hall on at least thirty-five previous occasions, she was nervous. “But adrenalin provides the spur which can make a performance special, give it charisma. As soon as the music started I was fine,” she recalls.
Sam’s dad, Joe, brought the concert to a close with the perfect finale. His rendition with ukulele of the standard ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams’ was unforgettable. As he played, red flowers started to fall from the ceiling over the whole auditorium. There wasn’t a dry eye anywhere. “It was a very emotional evening for all of us. The atmosphere was charged in a wonderfully warm, almost spiritual way. George had been one of my dad’s greatest friends. He was a very special person. He was spiritual but forthright and grounded, too. George was best man when dad remarried after my mum died. Dad was just so glad to have the opportunity to pay his respects by doing that song”.
…and recording Horse to the Water…
Sam also sang backing vocals on the last recording George Harrison made, his composition ‘Horse to the Water’, which was later released on a Jools Holland album. Although terminally sick by then, George was somehow lifted by the music. “Somewhere upstairs I still have a mini-disc from that recording session with George chattering away. It was not long before George died,” Sam recalls. This was the song that Sam was later to sing at the ‘Concert for George’. Inevitably that performance brought back memories of recording it with George just over a year earlier.
She also talks about her work with Pink Floyd and others in the interview, should Floyd have any fans here.

An album in tribute to George will be release on March 2nd.
http://rock107.com/randy-bachm…..ext-month/
Founding Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive rocker Randy Bachman salutes the music of the late George Harrison on a new studio album called By George – By Bachman, which will be released on March 2. The 13-track collection features reworked versions of various Harrison-penned Beatles songs, as well as one tune each from George’s solo career and his stint with The Traveling Wilburys.
Explaining the concept behind his album, Bachman says, “I figured I would take George’s songs and give them new grooves. I wanted the tempos and arrangements to be different but still recognizable by the lyrics. I took the major keys and turned them into minors. It was a whole new interpretation of a familiar song.”
By George – By Bachman also includes an original Bachman composition paying tribute to Harrison titled “Between Two Mountains,” which appears at the beginning and end of the record. Randy says of the inspiration behind the tune, “George’s light shone through what could have been a shadow between such mountainous forces as John [Lennon] and Paul [McCartney].”
As an added bonus, Bachman says, “Throughout the album, I put in little signature licks that are associated with George’s songs, like the slide part from ‘My Sweet Lord ’ or the opening chord from ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ for the fans to notice.”
Fans who pre-order By George – By Bachman will immediately receive a free download of Randy’s reggae-flavored take on “Here Comes The Sun .”
Bachman has lined up a series of concerts in support of the album, kicking off with a February 23 show in Riverhead, New York. Most of the shows will take place in Randy’s home country of Canada.
Here’s the track list of By George – By Bachman:
“Between Two Mountains”
“If I Needed Someone ”
“You Like Me Too Much ”
“While My Guitar Gently Weeps ”
“Handle with Care”
“Taxman ”
“I Need You ”
“Something ”
“Think For Yourself ”
“Here Comes The Sun ”
“Don’t Bother Me”
“Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)”
“Between Two Mountains (Reprise)”

Two solo George tracks, one of which is with the Wilbury’s! Go deeper, be original and cover George’s solo for once instead of paying attention to only his Beatles work.
And ‘A Hard Day’s Night ‘ isn’t a George song.
As an added bonus, Bachman says, “Throughout the album, I put in little signature licks that are associated with George’s songs, like the slide part from ‘My Sweet Lord ’ or the opening chord from ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ for the fans to notice.”
I’m being pernickety but still.

Watching the ‘This Is Love’ video again… it’s been a while and I forgot how beautiful and happy it is. ~3:26 (the little clip where he’s playing an acoustic guitar in a field) almost made me tear up, George looks so joyous
Beautiful man

I love George’s hair no matter what it’s like — it always looks good to me. Even the 70’s man-perms.That having been said, when I get my hair cut next, I’m going to ask them to cut my hair like this:
I tried that when I was in high school and even showed my local (and somewhat elderly) barber George’s picture on the inside of the Beatles For Sale album. After what seemed an worrying eternity I looked in the mirror and to my horror saw an army standard crop….
Despite my shock, I managed to mumble the words “that’s nothing like George Harrison ‘s haircut, to which he dismissively replied “he obviously didn’t come here then, did he?”
Took about 4 months to grow back….

Oh no!
It also helps if you know what you’re talking about and can specify certain things, like ‘Layered fringe below the eyebrows, and ears covered, please’, and that sort of thing. I’ve been studying photos of the Beatles’ moptops and trying to translate the distinct details into barber-speak. Be an intelligent consumer!
This thread activity reminds me… TEN DAYS TO GEORGE’S (official) BIRTHDAY

@VeraChuckDave the same thing happened to me , so there must have been collusion among the barbers against the counterculture. The upside for me was that I didn’t step foot in another barbershop for 15 years after that experience .
If I remember correctly the moptop cut can be created by putting a bowl on your head and cutting the hair hanging past the edge.
@Beatlebug, will you and @AppleScruffJunior be organizing Georgemas2 celebrations this year?

Haha, oh dear! Must have been. If the Beatles hadn’t been so darn popular, we could have all gone to Ringo’s barbershop.

That’s not quite the Beatles moptop, though. That’s more the little-boy haircut that everyone under the age of 6 in the 1970s had. A proper Beatles mop is a more complex and nebulous thing, with layers and side-fringe and fancy stuff like that. (I’ve become a moptop expert texpert )
