During the Get Back sessions (on 3 Jan) the Beatles are talking about oldie but goldie songs they could revive for the Get Back project. George says “I’ll tell you which is a good one” and starts in playing and singing Every Little Thing . Thank you, George. Then Paul joins in. 
As of now, that is my favorite Beatles song.

Offline Oh, the irony.
A tree planted to honor of the memory of the Beatles songwriter George Harrison has been killed by actual beetles. As the Los Angeles Times reports, the living local monument fell victim to an infestation of insects that couldn’t be bested. According to Councilman Tom LaBonge, the 10-foot-tall pine planted in 2004 bit the dust only recently, and a new one will be planted in its stead shortly.
Harrison’s last years were spent living in L.A. — he died there at 58 in late 2001, and was cremated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The so-called George Harrison Tree was accompanied by a plaque reading: “In memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician and a gardener.” It includes a quote from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi: “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green”
The plaque (and the forthcoming tree) is located near the city’s famous Griffith Observatory. The memorial has one very glowing review on Yelp (with photos), which now reads more as a eulogy to the tree that was:
On the day I was there, many tourists and visitors, in fact, walked right by it without noticing it at all. There is no signage that leads people to the tree, and the memorial plaque is near the ground and out-of-sight. Furthermore, I didn’t see any buskers or fans with guitars either playing “Here Comes The Sun ,” “Something ,” or “My Sweet Lord ” (or any of Harrison’s many other well known songs). Instead, with my own private thoughts and reflections, I enjoyed that pine tree in peace just as George, I’m sure, would have wanted it.

Offline As Ron Nasty posted at the news thread, NPR Music has an interview with Tom Petty, during which he shares some memories of his friendship with George starting at the 10-minute mark.
I liked that he mentioned that George liked The Beatles and liked talking about them, because so many people carry a perception of him as bitterly hating the band.

Offline ^ I liked that too. He said something similar in another interview where he said even though George bitched about them sometimes, he clearly loved John, Paul and Ringo, and was extremely proud of The Beatles.
I find it quite frustrating that so many people see him that way (including hating fans, hating Paul, etc.) when there’s plenty of evidence pointing to the contrary..if they would bother to look.

Didn’t know that all four of the current (at the time) Beatle wives were co-founders (along with Elton) (“[Olivia] was also co-founder of the Romanian Angel Appeal with Linda McCartney, Barbara Bach, Yoko Ono and Elton John.”). That’s pretty cool.

Yeah but we cant expect celebrities to just be like normal people so its news. Same goes with them going in a shop or walking down the street – its amazing and therefore needs to be announced to the world in exclusive reports. Thank goodness for the internet so that not one such event doesnt go unreported.

* The George Fest concert on September 28 has been moved to a bigger venue due to the demand. It’ll now be at the Fonda Theater and more tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10am. *fingers crossed*
* According to The Examiner, Conan O’Brien will be dedicating next week to the Apple Box release:
TBS’ late-night show “Conan” announced Monday it will feature a special tribute to George Harrison the week of Sept. 22 with appearances by Dhani Harrison, George’s son, Beck, Norah Jones
I haven’t found specific dates for musical guests, but tickets for tapings to Conan on the 23rd and 24th are still available via 1iota.com
* And the Grammy Museum will host a screening of Wonderwall on Oct. 2. Tickets go on sale Wednesday at 10:30am:

I just got back from the Conan taping with Paul Simon as the musical guest. His performance was, in Conan’s words, “stunning.” I’ll add a link to the YouTube video tomorrow. But if you can catch it tonight, you should. He performs and then sits down with Conan and shares a few stories.
[Edit: removing spoiler tags.] He performed “Here Comes The Sun .” I don’t know if you’ll hear it on TV, but when the audience recognized the song, there was a soft “awwww.” It was so gorgeous. And you could have heard a pin drop during the interview, the audience was so in thrall. We gave him a standing ovation.
There were a few people wearing Beatle shirts in the crowd, so I talked to a few. Amazingly, one of the guys was wearing a Let It Be shirt didn’t know it was George Harrison Week, so that was an extra bonus for him.
I’m glad I was able to see it in person, because I’m sure some of the warmth of the performance will be lost when I see it on TV. I was almost in tears.
Also, a little tidbit – and I may have been the only Beatle fan to catch this – Dhani was in the audience, presumably with his band. They slipped away right after the interview.
I was waitlisted for tomorrow’s show with Dhani, but as luck would have it, a ticket became available, so I’m going again. This sort of makes up for getting shut out of George Fest.
