So having just posted about Apple Scruffs (Take 1) on the bootleg thread, I’m going to devote a little section of The GH Club to some of my favourite George outtakes, alternate songs and unreleased gems (hazah)
I have already expressed my love of the ‘Beware of ABKCO*’ bootleg and this is probably my favourite unreleased track from it ‘Window Window’
*For all of y’all who don’t know BOABKCO are the songs that George demoed for Phil Spector to showcase his songs for ATMP . All tracks are George by himself with either an acoustic or electric guitar.
It also features an early version of ‘Beautiful Girl’ which George later recorded for 33 & a 1/3 in 1976. He was stuck on the lyrics and later wrote them about Olivia
I might post some more later but I’ll leave ‘Yesterday ‘ with George and Bob Dylan
So everyone, what are your favourite Harrison outtakes, alternate songs and unreleased tunes?

Anyone looking for ATMP acetates and alternates will find some at The Source. After clicking on either Set One or Set Two just right click over each song link and then select “save target as” from the drop down menu that appears or click it to play it online.
I love Nowhere To Go from the BOABKCO tapes, why that wasnt on Early Takes is a mystery to me. George expressing his tiredness of being a Beatle and all that came with it.

It’s time for dundundundun ‘thenewno2 news’.
The drummer, Frank Zummo, has gotten married (yay for Frank and his wife Lauren!) And guess who was at at the wedding? *Struggles for ages to somehow manage to copy images off Instagram-gives up* Why Dhani of course (check Frank Zummo’s Instragram for photos if you care)
Also there will be no sequel to the film ‘Beautiful Creatures’ that the lads did the soundtrack to last year. It barely made any profit and they made a complete balls of the adaption anyways (if you haven’t read the book, they basically got the names and the general idea of Lena being a ‘caster’ right- that’s about it. Also characters died who shouldn’t have died so yeah, well done to the writer *slow claps*) I didn’t really expect them to do a second soundtrack anyways but they did a fine job for BC. ‘The Honey Hill Stomp’ being my favourite track, I think.
Now back to the main focus of this thread- George. Carrying on with the bootleg theme above, I thought I’d post some of Neon Chimp’s 1974 tour edits. The audio is from the Fort Wrath, Texas show and the footage is from random silent snippets of concerts that audience members filmed and Neon Chimp put audio to.
Give Me Love
One of my personal favourites- My Sweet Lord , it’s got a very funky treatment that suits it well, which must have been Billy Preston’s idea.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps Tries To Smile (The changed lyrics add nothing to the song and are just annoying)

Happy Birthday Olivia.
Here is Run Of The Mill as Olivia named it as her favourite George song in an interview on the BBC.

Sorry to detract from Olivia’s birthday but I have just found a video which is considered jaw dropping in newno2 history.
SOLA SPEAKING!!!
For the last 2 years that I have known of Solveig Karadottir’s existence, I have never once heard her utter a word (it’s quite funny the title translates to ‘Solveig Karadottir lurks in secret’). She generally just stands there.
Pity that it’s in Icelandic, anyone speak Icelandic/know someone who does?
http://www.mbl.is/frettir/sjon…..=smartland
She also blinks quite a lot which isn’t a tic as in other videos she doesn’t do it.

Ultimate Classic Rock article on an interview with Mike Myers in GQ in which he mentions that George wrote his last letter to him.
On Nov. 29, 2001, George Harrison died at the age of 58 after a long struggle with cancer. In a new interview, actor Mike Myers reveals that, earlier that day, he received a piece of fan mail from Harrison, which he says was the last letter the former Beatle ever wrote.
As Myers recounts to GQ, he was on the set of ‘Austin Powers in Goldmember,’ shooting a scene where many Hollywood stars are making a film about Powers’ life the day Harrison’s letter unexpectedly arrived. Myers had never before met or corresponded with Harrison, so he was thrilled to discover that one of his idols was a fan. He says that receiving it was “mind-blowing, dude. For the son of a Liverpudlian, a person who worships the Beatles.”
Myers shared some of the contents of the letter, which he says is “prominently displayed” in his’ home. “He says, ‘…sitting here with my Dr. Evil doll…I just wanted to let you know I’ve been looking all over Europe for a mini-you doll.’ And he says, ‘Dr. Evil says frickin,’ but any good Scouser dad will tell you it’s actually ‘friggin’ as in a ‘four of fish and finger pie‘, if you get my drift.’ He said, “Thanks for the movies, so much fun.”
The ‘Austin Powers’ and ‘Wayne’s World’ star once spoke of how much the last scene in ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ — where photographs of the group fall from a helicopter carrying the Beatles — means to him. Harrison referenced it in the letter by saying, “I’m sorry I left you on the helicopter that day, I promise I won’t do it again.”
Myers says he has since learned the backstory of Harrison’s letter, but would prefer to keep it to himself. “I can’t really speak of it,” he continued. “But it is fantastic and sad and awesome, and this is the magic that I’m talking about that I feel very grateful and privileged to be part of it.”

A lovely interview with George from 1988 🙂
He discusses life after The Beatles, his privacy, Friar Park, Ringo and of course Dhani trying to play guitar like Chuck Berry

Here’s a story I either missed or never heard before – a Jim Carrey connection to George referenced at Reddit:
GEORGE HARRISON is getting help in recovering from his cancer surgery from his pal JIM CARREY. The former BEATLE announced last week (ends04MAY01) that he’d had a cancerous nodule removed from one of his lungs at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, America, and caring Carrey, a massive Beatles fan, loaned the ailing star his private jet so he could fly to Italy to recuperate with his wife OLIVIA. According to American tabloid THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER, Harrison told friends, “Jim’s been a great source of support for both me and Olivia throughout this ordeal. ” And friends say Carrey was one of the few people that Harrison, who underwent a similar operation in 1997, trusted enough to admit he was suffering from lung cancer and facing more surgery. “It’s been an awful time for George, but he’s a survivor,” says a pal. “Now he’s trying to recuperate – and he can thank Jim Carrey for giving him a lift. ” (LE/NE/EP) Source: WENN

Meant to x-post from the Fan Encounters thread yesterday:
Meet the Beatles for Real story of fans meeting George in hometown, Chicago, during promotion for 33 1/3.
I love the first pic. The George/Dhani resemblance is especially noticeable when either of them smile(d).

Since this is a George only thread, I guess a good question would be why is George your favorite Beatle. He is mine for a number of reasons, mostly due to being very innovative, his spiritual life and having a lot more to do with the groups songs then we were led to believe. I look forward to everyone’s responses since Lennon and McCartney seem to get most of the attention.
George is my favorite Beatle because I feel sad, his music makes me feel better. Well, all Beatles music make me feel that way, but I feel .. how to say it? comforted when I listen to his songs. Everytime I am sad or angry, I listen to Beware Of Darkness to remember who the true enemy is. And I go to mass every Sunday, but I feel closer to God when I listen to My Sweet Lord .
And because he was too damn hot. Seriously.

Speaking of which…can anybody tell me the source of the old animated gif I saw (on an old thread here) of George getting his shirt completely ripped off as if by suction? (Or was it even George? My eyes aren’t great and those gifs are kinda small…)

Ah, thanks for that! Crazy thing is that I watched “Help !” just last night and totally missed that – I was looking elsewhere on the screen, I guess. Plus I falsely remembered George as wearing jeans and a more casual shirt in the gif.

No idea where to put this (if anyone knows a better home feel free to get it towed) so here is a look back at Pattie and Erics wedding just over 35 years ago and the Threetles reunion that occurred. A quote from the article:
“The first Christmas after I’d left him, in 1974, just as Eric and I were sitting down to lunch, George burst in, uninvited,” Boyd says in her autobiography. “He had some wine and Christmas pudding with us. I couldn’t believe how friendly he and Eric were towards each other.”
Note by Ahhh Girl: mmm, this is the first thread I thought of when I read your post. If you or someone thinks of a better thread, PM me and I’ll move it.
