It’s one of those Beatle mysteries- who bassed on Birthday ? With the conflicting sources I guess we’ll never know. As an experienced bass player myself, though, I’d say the playing is more McCartney-style.Funny, I always thought the bass line of “Birthday ” had a very lumpy sound to it, i.e. not really typical of Paul’s playing. Let’s also not forget that in The Beatles: Rock Band George is shown playing the Fender VI in that song while Paul plays his Epiphone electric as well as the piano.
I love the dreamscapes on Beatles RB, but they did a lot to make their life easier.

– She Said She Said (I’ve read it somewhere, Paul was not avaiable at the time they recorded it. wonder which bass he used)
A 1966 Burns Nu-Sonic bass.
(Different session, same era)

I still can’t believe George played bass on Maxwell’s Silver Hammer , the bass sounds really good. How did Paul scold George about the bass in Two of Us? The bass sounds good in that track.

There are a lot of things that are incorrect on Rock Band, so let’s not take that too seriously.
I’m always so flabbergasted when I see how everyone knows all their instruments. I really don’t have a clue what guitars or bass guitars they used. I know Paul played a Hofner and Ringo used a Ludwig drumkit and that’s about it. Lol.

Paul didn’t always use his hofner bass, only until Rubber Soul and on let it be. He played his great bass stuff on his rickenbacker which imo sounds and looks better
Once there was a way to get back homewards. Once there was a way to get back home; sleep pretty darling do not cry. And I will sing a lullaby

They kept a 6 string bass around for the guitar players to pluck at when Paul had his hands full………
Best 6 string bass I’ve heard from a guitarist…….Peter Green’s live, ‘Green Manaleshi’……..Which I guess adds very little to the conversation……
I was distracted by George vs George……..So ‘Green’s, Green’ sorted of fitted……..’Oh Well.’

Geoff Emmerick claims that George played Paul’s Hofner on Rock And Roll Music , but that’s such a stupid claim because the thought of George playing a bass with a reversed string order (I doubt that Paul would let someone take off the string to rearrange them for one song) that well in 1964 in one take is absolutely bollocks.
As for songs where George plays bass, here’s a list:
She Said She Said (Revolver , 1966) Supposedly, Paul walked out of the session so George played bass on the song, using the Burns bass from the Paperback Writer session. However, some say that Paul recorded his bass before he walked out, so I can’t say for sure who played bass on this song.
Back In The USSR (The Beatles, 1968) This song has 2 bass parts, one by John on his Fender Bass VI and the other by George on his Fender Jazz Bass.
Birthday (The Beatles, 1968) Not sure whether it’s Paul or George on bass, I think it’s Paul but it could be George on his Fender Bass VI.
Honey Pie (The Beatles, 1968) George uses the Fender Bass VI while Paul plays piano and John plays his Epiphone Casino.
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (Abbey Road , 1969) George’s best bass part, contrary to popular belief, this was not played on the Fender Bass VI, instead it was played on his Fender Jazz Bass.
Golden Slumbers /Carry That Weight (Abbey Road , 1969) George played his Fender Bass VI on both of these songs, although he didn’t seem to realize it.
Here’s also a list of songs where George plays the bassline on guitar:
Drive My Car (Rubber Soul , 1965) George doubles Paul’s Höfner on his Fender Strat.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles, 1968) Either George or Paul doubles Paul’s Fender Jazz Bass on guitar during the choruses.
Old Brown Shoe (1969) George doubles Paul’s bass on his Telecaster.
Two Of Us (Let It Be , 1970) George plays the bassline on his Telecaster
Maggie Mae (Let It Be , 1970) same as Two Of Us
