That’s a good question, I bet Joe might have an explanation. He does run this site and there is a lot of good information on this site, including a well documented Beatles history section and pages for each song The Beatles released that’s in their official catalogue, even the B side of Yellow Submarine .

I know George said he acquired it during the Rubber Soul sessions, but yet here’s John with his during the Help ! sessions:
Here is another

And now the other component of the Lennon-McCartney team is taking over George’s thread.

I don’t have an explanation! My guess is that on the occasions he used it in the studio, there wasn’t a photographer present.

@SayaOtonashi I have not forgotten the point I raised about when John and George last met. I have now had time to do further research on the subject, and stand by my original suggestion that the last time they definitely met was 20 December 1974.
I realise you have seen video where George says he last saw John two years before his death, which would be sometime in 1978.
I understand the desire to take their words as gospel. However, they are very often wrong, especially when it comes to the timing of events.
Here is George talking to Rolling Stone on 19 February 1979: “I haven’t seen John for a couple of years – it sounds like the Rutles, but he keeps in touch with tapping on the table and postcards.”
This would put their last meeting back to early 1977. This could be about right.
Though there is nothing definite about it, there are some rumours that John and George may have met up in New York on 7-8 November 1976. That would fit with George saying in early 1979 that he hadn’t seen John for a couple of years.

@GardeningOctopus Cute username, and welcome to the forum!
As far as I know, George and Eric did indeed remain close — they even joked about their ‘shared wife’, though I’m sure there were things unsaid as well.

Can you tell me which day these pictures were taken, as I want to know what song he is seen using his Strat on and these are the only known photographs of George playing his Strat before it’s rocky piant job. My guess is either Taxman or I Want To Tell You .
Maybe you should try posting more.

Thanks Evangeline, except for the fact that your information doesn’t narrow down my search, as every single song off Revolver was recorded during that period of time.

Oh definitely they were friends before he died, not as close as The Beatle years (they could never really be that close again after the band broke up anyway).
Sure George received his final treatment, and died in Paul’s LA home, I don’t think you’d let a person you weren’t friends with do that.

Agreed. I can’t imagine how hard that was for Paul. I mean I asked because he did seem resentful still in many interviews. I just wish John and George kind of made up more.

Is there still the ‘om’ flag on the roof of Friar Park? (as seen in the video for Ding Dong, Ding Dong and which is also mentioned by Pattie in her autobiography when talking about George and Maureen.)
I went straight to the top of the house and lowered the flag bearing the om symbol that George had been flying from the roof and hoisted a skull and crossbones instead. That made me feel much better.

I would imagine it’s still there (there’s a variety of flags George used to choose from depending on his mood). I don’t think Olivia would take it down, it’s very ‘George’ to have a flag post displaying whether you were happy or pissed off, to warn people in advance.

Thanks. I was listening to the Indian soundtrack music from help which is what reminded me, but I couldn’t find a confirming source.

@TheWalrusWasBrian asked about George’s 1976 Saturday Night Live appearance in another thread. To avoid derailing, I am answering the question here.
On 24 April 1976, Lorne Michaels famously made this extremely generous offer to the Beatles to perform three songs on the show…
Famously, John and Paul were across town watching, together for possibly the last time, and joked about jumping in a cab and collecting the money.
On 20 November, George appeared on the show doing the promotional rounds for 33 & 1/3. Paul Simon was hosting, and the show opened with George trying to get the $3000:
George and Paul Simon played Here Comes The Sun and Homeward Bound together:
It is often, and rightly so, considered one of SNL jewels. It’s a great performance, they meld beautifully. Simon still often performs HCtS live in tribute to George.
There are another two songs by them, from the rehearsal, when they perform
and
The Beatles SNL reunion gag was picked up again in 1993, when Paul appeared, and (unfortunately can’t find it online) the show opened with the similar device of the audience watching something backstage on the monitors.
Michaels is seen protesting to Paul, “I just assumed George would have given you the money.”
