Crap man, less than 10 minutes into the Concert for George, and I start tearing. God George you need to stop doing this to me.
But without George, I wouldn't know what a sitar was or how amazing Indian music sounds.
George,
*17* George stop stalking me!
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

Happy Birthday George. Thank you for all your beautiful music and being my inspiration for all these years. Without you, I would never have played the guitar. May your love always be a within of our hearts.

Concert For George is absolutely Fantastic. Hearing Something by Paul, with Ringo And Clapton, is awesome. I was let down by Tom Petty, but Ringo, Paul and Eric are doing Fantastic.

You guys, it is *so nice* to see that even though it's raining like crazy over here, about 25 people showed up to pay tribute to George. I got there maybe about 30 minutes late, and thought there was going to be something still outside, so I almost walked by everything and everyone tucked into the building's doorway, but this very nice (observant) man named Jerry roped me in and that was that. 🙂
I immediately was asked to introduce myself and had a video camera turned on me as I was asked what George meant to me. Being the camera hog that I am, my first word out of my mouth was “Eep!” But I recovered a bit and mentioned I had been a Beatles and George fan since I was 11 and I always admired how he seemed so down to earth in the midst of all this massive stardom. Another guy showed up late and got the same drill and he told a story of how he was working with Cheap Trick but ran into George on tour in Japan and he decided not to play one night out of respect for the passing of Joey Ramone (he said Dee Dee, but I think he meant Joey) and even though he was technically off the clock that night, he still came around to all the crew and shook their hands and said hello and was really cool to everyone.
There were a bunch of girls there, high schoolers, and two of them brought pictures they drew of him, one as a Beatles cartoon, and one probably modeled after how he looked around 1968-ish. Another girl read a poem she wrote for him, and you know, it's just really cool to be surrounded by people who love and appreciate him as much as I do. There were two workers from Capitol there, once who maintained John Lennon 's star, and one who maintained George's, and they told a joint story of how when George was about to get a star, they used John Lennon 's star to make a mock-up of it in foamcore, and somehow they ran into Dhani, who signed it for the woman who took care of John's star.
And then like any good party, there was cake. 🙂 It had a picture of the All Things Must Pass album cover on there. Someone brought their mp3 player, and we were listening to George's Beatles and solo songs all throughout (even though it was kind of silly to hear Here Comes The Sun during a very rainy night — not even Here Comes The Moon would have worked.) 🙂
Apparently, there is a tree dedicated to George in Griffith Park nearby the planetarium. (Hey guys, guess where I'll be headed soon?)
Ooh, AND! In 2013, when George would have been 70, they are going to humor George, who liked to tell people on the 24th his birthday was the next day, and tell those who wished him a happy birthday on the 25th that they *just* missed his birthday which was yesterday. There's going to be a celebration on the 24th AND the 25th, just to make sure, of course. 🙂
So mark all your calendars and get your butts over here! (I'll play the lottery every week from here on in so I can get a house large enough to put everyone up for the weekend.) I'm really happy I finally got my butt down there, and knowing that they do the same for his passing day as well as John's birth and passing days and Ringo's birthday (Paul doesn't have a star just yet), I'll probably make more trips down to Capitol.
OK, so here are the pictures, the cake, and a garden gnome. 🙂

I didn't know that. That makes me smile.

Yeah, we all know he'd probably hate this sort of thing, but at the same time, it has to be nice for him to know how he is still well-loved here.
I'm excited because last year I had heard about this rememberance for him on the 25th of February at Capitol Records, but I couldn't attend
it. It turns out though, that it is an annual thing:

I think I'm going to see if I can make my way down there this Friday.

Thanks for sharing that StarWisher. Glad to see you were able to make it this year. What a cool cake.
My wife's B-day is the 24th. She doesn't try to fool people with the day of her birth like George did. The year, on the other hand…
We were out of town over the weekend but still found time to remember George by listening to his Beatles songs and ATMP while drinking beer from a pint glass with George's likeness on it (I almost said a pint glass with George's mug on it). The room we stayed in was right on the ocean so we pointed the glass to the northeast toward Liverpool and in the most Monty Pythonesque spirit “toasted in his general direction”.
We still miss you George.
Peace and Love

That made me almost laugh. (I'm in class right now and I'm done with my classwork)
