For my personal number 1, I would say “I Me Mine “. He really got a feel in his voice at that point, it didn’t resemble what I’ve heard on other “George-sunged” tracks. I like his vocals in “Here Comes The Sun “, “Something ” and of course “Within You Without You “.
Now, give me your opinions.

Well I also like the vocals of I Me Mine but Old Brown Shoe sounds very funny, i think

Isnt this very similar to the Rank your favorite George songs (which he wrote or just sang lead vocals) thread? Can they be merged together?

I was just listening to Free As A Bird (that counts as Beatles right? I’m not derailing this thread right?) and the 2nd bridge where George sings before his guitar solo (2:40) really moved me, and I’ve listened to it over and over again and I can’t work out why (I think party it’s the way he holds ‘feel’) but I’ve decided that as of right now it’s my favourite vocal of his (and possibly any of the 4…).

I know it’s not George-penned but I am in love with the vocal on I’m Happy Just To Dance With You . Also, George’s backing vocals in You’re Going To Lose That Girl are sublime.

I know what you mean. There’s a melancholic beauty about that song that keeps me coming back for more. It’s a nice little bookend to the band, I feel. Not perfect, of course, but considering the circumstances, it’s the best we can hope for. John taking lead vocal, George and Paul supporting him vocally as well, with Ringo as always behind the drums. By the end of the song I feel more at peace, even though still melancholy, because John is now ‘Free As A Bird ’. George and Paul’s additions are newer, so they are singing with the context John is no longer with us, which also makes things powerful, such as the “feeeeeel” moment you cite.

I also love that FAAB bit, I mainly listen to it for George’s 5-seconds, to be honest.
I can’t really explain what it is that makes it so alluring, I think it could be the fact the rest of the song is quite ‘dreamy’. John’s voice sounds ghostly and distant, Paul is being rather quiet and not drawing attention to himself and then out of nowhere George goes “always makes me feeEEEEELLLL SOOOOO FREEE”, it breaks you from the dreamscape that the original song has, in a nice way.

Somehow I never even realized that that was George (what is wrong with me?!? ). I hunted it down on YouTube and listened and you’re RIGHT it’s AMAZING it’s the BEST PART OF THE SONG.
I mean, George’s contribution to any Beatles’ song, is always the best bit .
Let It Be (single version) with that naff solo: 8/10
Let It Be (album version) with that sick solo: 10/10

I mean previously my favorite part of it (Free As A Bird that is) was George’s slide guitar so I don’t feel too guilty… but how, how, how could I ever think that was Paul?

Even though George wasn’t diagnosed with throat cancer yet (that was the summer of ’96) and the song was recorded in spring 1994, his voice in this really sounds like his “sick” voice (similar to All Things Must Pass 2000, This Guitar (Can’t Keep From Crying)- Platinum Weird Version, and Horse To The Water). It has this gravelly tone to it that doesn’t outwardly scream George when you first hear it.

Although it’s not part of the official cannon, I’ve always thought Take Good Care Of My Baby from the Decca audition to be one of George’s best early era lead vocals, that and Do You Want To Know A Secret .

Sorry, sorry, couldn’t resist. I mean no offense.
I agree though!!!! I Forgot To Remember To Forget isn’t canon either, and it’s fabulous. (Did I say that already? I can’t remember…) Also, I can’t get enough of the vocal on The Inner Light .

I’m listening to Old Brown Shoe and there are certain parts where George’s voice is magical beyond words, like when he says “down” around 0:40.

For a long time I was dismissive of George’s vocal on the WTB “Roll Over Beethoven “, ignorantly claiming in this very forum that, while he had a lovely voice for singing softly on things like “Long Long” and “I Me Mine “, he sadly didn’t have the lung-power (nor the inclination, apparently) to really deliver a convincing rock ‘n roll shout. Or, at least, not with the same conviction that his older bandmates could. But then I encountered the live Star-Club recordings and had to revise my opinion, based on ravers like “Red Hot”, or this frenzied (definitive) version of “…Beethoven”:

Not necessarily my favourite or best, but personally revelatory.
