It’s ‘son of’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. I decided to write that song because of the popularity of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps ‘. It was really just like a cheap excuse to play a big of guitar. And that song, ‘Guitar Gently Weeps’, was actually more popular than I realised. That was the one song particularly that went down very well. And it seems to have been quite a popular one of my songs off the old Beatle albums. So I thought I’d write another one. Son of.

While adding the Platinum Weird version of “This Guitar” to my Harrisongs Web site I was naturally bummed to find that the original download location has been shut down. Offline Here is some information regarding this recording.
A source close to the project regarding the new version of “This Guitar” tells me some new recording on the song took place on Saturday 3/18/06 at Mark Hudson’s Whatinthewhathe? Studio in Los Angeles. Adding to the track was Ringo on drums and tambourine, Hudson on bass and background vocals, and Dhani Harrison and Dave Stewart on electric guitars. And, yes, that is George playing that beautiful acoustic guitar in the opening (as well as singing). The original recording, by the way, is from 1992, says the source. Matt Hurwitz

Offline Thanks for that bit of info, Inner Light! I hadn’t come across it yet. I have come across a post that discusses the track on another forum which predates March 2006 though (Here it is). I’m not sure how Ringo, Dhani etc. could have worked on it in March if the track had been released at least a month earlier! Oh well. It just adds to the mystery I guess. Haha.

Offline I apologize in advance, but, er, are you guys sure that is George’s voice? It doesn’t sound like him… Why does he sound so different from the George of The Beatles or Cloud Nine ? Maybe it’s me though. And yes, definitely he isn’t playing the lead guitars; that’s not his style of playing, nor is it his sound. I liked the song, by the way; the chords progression is beautiful. He also got laryngitis in either ’74 or ’75, I don’t recall. Anyway, yep, his voice was really shredded, so he didn’t sound like himself– just listen to Dark Horse , particularly the title track.

Offline George even revisited the track in 1992 for Dave Stewart and later more instruments were added.

Aye, once he ditched being heavy on the brandy and the cocaine (a large part of George’s diet in the early to mid ’70’s. ) he got better.
He didn’t take care of himself very well after The Beatles split and especially after the breakdown of Pattie’s and his marriage and he over-indulged in non-healthy substances to say the least. Once he got hepatitis and almost died he released that he wasn’t invincible and started to take better care of himself- he also had Olivia in his life then and she saved him from probably being the first dead Beatle.

Yeah Olivia came and helped get George sorted and his focus back on what was important to him.
Strangely ‘Dark Horse ‘ is the best track on the album – which probably says more about the standard of the rest of the album.
