There is already a thread for George’s best lyrics in a Beatles song (Harrison’s Greatest Lyrics) but not for solo. Personally i find that George wrote some unbelievably incredible lyrics but at times the melody wasn’t the most inviting and so the words get overlooked but really shouldn’t be, they deserve to be read and digested. Love these from ‘The Answers At The End ‘; if we actually applied them and lived by them life would be so much more rewarding but, to quote John, ‘It’s hard, its really hard”.
Scan not a friend with a microscopic glass
You know his faults, now let the foibles pass
Life is one long enigma, my friend
So read on, read on, the answer’s at the endDon’t be so hard on the ones that you love
It’s the ones that you love we think so little of
Don’t be so hard on the ones that you need
It’s the ones that you need we think so little ofThe speech of flowers excels the flowers of speech
But what’s often in your heart, is the hardest thing to reach
And life is one long mystery, my friend
So live on, live on, the answer’s at the endDon’t be so hard on the ones that you love
It’s the ones that you love we think so little of
Don’t be so hard on the ones that you need
It’s the ones that you need we think so little ofDon’t be so hard on the ones that you love
It’s the ones that you love we think so little of
Don’t be so hard on the ones that you need
It’s the ones that you need we think so little ofOh, we think so little of the ones that we love, sometimes
Isn’t It A Pity how we hurt
The ones that we love the most of all
The ones we shouldn’t hurt at allYou know my faults, now let the foibles pass
‘Cause life is one long enigma, my friend
Live on, live on, the answer’s at the endDon’t be so hard on the ones that you love
It’s the ones that you love we think so little of
Don’t be so hard on the ones that you need
It’s the ones that you need we think so little ofDon’t be so hard on the ones that you love

Anyone got their own they’d like to share?

George’s lyrics have always inspired me. I do feel he writes beautiful melodies though. Songs that come to mind regarding thought provoking lyrics would be ‘All Things Must Pass ‘, ‘That’s What It Takes’, ‘Run Of The Mill ‘, ‘Life Itself’ and ‘See Yourself’. There are many more but those come to mind.
For me, the lyrics are the most important part of the song. He has always said that if he is going to write a song, he wants it to mean something. I have always been able to take something away with me after listening to his songs.

Watch out now, take care
Beware of the thoughts that linger
Winding up inside your head
The hopelessness around you
In the dead of nightBeware of sadness
It can hit you
It can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for
Am currently listening ‘All Things Must Pass and 107 Other Songs’ and these lines struck me. How often thoughts come (generally more often at night but not solely) that can lead to very dark places if you let them manifest and get free run of the mind – its so crucial to try and kill them immediately before they start to germinate and cripple you. I’m beginning to see how important it is to not listen to them and let them get in. They only bring you further down and the sadness wraps closer around you and before you know it its all snowballed and everything appears so much darker.
[I bet all that is garbled to everyone.]

Here is one that I’m really keen on–Be Here Now. Evidently George did not believe in Yesterday and neither do I! I’ve always been a very ‘here now’ sort of person. It reads like a Taoist poem:
Remember now
Be here now
As it’s not like it was
Before
The past was–be here now
And it’s not what it was
Before
It was.
Why try to live a life
That isn’t real, nohow?
A mind that wants to wander
Round a corner
Is an unwise mind.
Now is
Be here now
And it’s not what it was
Before
Remember now
Be here now
Cause it’s not like it was before
It was.
I also really like ‘See Yourself’–oh! how true it is! and All Things Must Pass , of course.

Gonna rock on away from here(The reasons why I love you)
If you want me woman please don’t act so shy
If you want me woman please Don’t Pass Me By
I love those sideways glances (Yeah)
Your shoulder and your thigh(The reasons why I love you)
I see inside your eyes, the Baba’s Sai
The reasons why I love youSo if you’re still busy hiding what it is you’ve got
If you’re frightened of losing what you like a lot
You may be cruising backwards
While thinking that you’re not(The reasons why I love you)
I see into your eyes, the Baba Sais
The reasons why I love youSo if you don’t get the picture, you won’t know what I feel
If you don’t get the picture, then you won’t have a depth of field
You may be going some place
Some place you’ve already been
