‘It Don’t Come Easy’ sounds really good live in this show, the single hadn’t been out for very long and was still a current hit at the time. It’s nice to see Ringo drumming and singing here for he almost always takes to the front of the stage with only a microphone whenever he’s performed the song live since. The triple live album is every bit as good as the ‘All Things Must Pass ‘ 3 record set:
The highlights are numerous, the album and footage have a rare intimate feeling to them which make you feel as though you were actually a part of it, even if you were nowhere near Madison Square Garden for the show…:-)

One of my earliest LPs was a great birthday gift of the Concert for Bangladesh which I had first seen at the cinema and really liked. I have the CD (and DVD) set now but as noted in another thread miss that great big book that came in the LP box.

As it’s the anniversary of the Concert for Bangladesh, Saturday with the Beatles is playing some performances. Right now it’s Leon Russell doing Jumping Jack Flash.

Wow – haven’t double posted in a while.
G’night ladies and gents. Zag is off to watch a movie in the other room and I’m throwing on Concert For Bangladesh. Already smiling in anticipation of Billy Preston’s highly energetic rendition of ‘That’s The Way God Planned It’.
@parlance thanks for the reminder!

Fantastic video of George and Bob rehearsing ‘If Not For You ‘. Is this one of the bonus’s in the box set?

Yeah, it’s on the DVD, @meanmistermustard. One of the highlights, and a great shame they dropped the idea of doing it.
(On a merge note, I’m pretty sure there’s an earlier “Concert for George” thread somewhere. I remember a conversation about Joe Brown’s closing I’ll Be in Your Dreams.)

That and John dropping ‘Working Class Hero ‘ from the One-To-One shows. Very strange considering how good both were.

This is something new to me. Didn’t know George had rehearsed ‘Deep Blue for possible inclusion in the concert and would have loved it if he had as its one of my favourite George songs.

I’ve seen both Concert for George and Concert for Bangladesh. Concert for Bangladesh is obviously better because George was there as well as a bunch of other musicians in their prime. Highlight of the show was definitely ‘Here Comes The Sun ‘ on acoustic.. and the dueling guitar solos of George and Eric on While my Guitar Gentle Weeps is awesome too!
On the concert for george, I really like ‘The Inner Light ‘. Some really great sitar work by anoushka!

I got a kick out of part of the press conference at the beginning of the film.
George is asked by a reporter (paraphrasing): Mr. Harrison, with all of the troubles going on in the world today, what made you decide to help this particular cause?
George: Because I was asked to.
He went on to explain how Ravi approached him etc…, but the first response was so wonderfully, typically, get-right-to-the-point-and-cut-through-the-bullshit George Harrison .
Love that man.

It’s a shame harrison didn’t enjoy touring more as he was an excellent live musician.
Yes, I think that tour where his voice gave out turned him off the road trips.
