How could we fail?To be honest, even if you all said it was complete s***e I would have bought it anyway. I’m good at wasting money.
You came to the right group then.
Apple love putting out complete s***e and have folk waste their money on buying it. You get better at it too as time goes on.

This is probably my favorite George Harrison album. I absolutely love it!

I think it’s just you…
I listened to this album again today, after not having heard it for a while. It’s a lovely album, I think — quite silly, but it’s got this great vibe: happy, carefree, seaside holiday. I think George just stopped caring after Somewhere In England and, in between travels, scraped some daft tunes together and tossed them out into the record-buying public. Not that many bought it…
I love how much acoustic slide there is on this album! It’s great to play along with.

Just the words “They say”. Doesn’t it sound very vaguely sound like Ringo?

This is the only post-Beatles album of George’s that I have never listened to in ¿it’s? entirety. The songs just don’t really interest me too much. I like Baby Don’t Run Away and I Really Love You. Those are the only ones I generally don’t skip when I’m listening to George on shuffle, though I have been meaning to listen to the album lately as the songs don’t seem as bad to me now as they did five years ago.

I Really Love You is one of my favorites! @Little Piggy Dragonguy I love when George would pull out one of those obscure little oldies like this one and record it. In fact, I kinda wish there were more!

He should have done a cover album of those like the other 3 lads.

@William Shears Campbell I just had that same exact thought! I imagine it would’ve been a little disappointing after ~10 years to finally get another Beatles album and have it be all covers though. I bet it’d still sell like hot cakes anyway.

Fun fact: The cover for Gone Troppo was designed by Legs Larry Smith, drummer of The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band! Here he is talking about being in the Magical Mystery Tour film and George.
And yes, that is Neil Innes AKA Ron Nasty at 00:21

“Mystical One” is my absolute favorite. Beautiful, happy melody, the kind of lyrics that only come from George, and the guitars sound like streaks of rain on a window in Hawaii. Blissful. I Really Love you (glockenspiel!), Greece, and the title song are just fun, while That’s the Way it Goes and Unknown Delight are bona fide classic George.
Also, am I the only one who really loves that cover? The blue and yellow really work for me. Sure, it’s chaotic and some would say garish. Sometimes, it seems like people are reflexively averse to anything loud or colorful. Personally, I think minimalism and muted tones are overrated. Some album covers I can get happy just by looking at…. Gone Troppo is one.

I’ve became tolerable to ‘WUML’ over time; the synth opener still sounds lame but the lyrics at start are a brilliant way to kick off the album.
Here I go again
Hear that knockin’ won’t you let me in
Only want that same old thing
Yet it’s me here ring, ring, ring
George knew he wasn’t in trend at this point and clearly he couldn’t care less so there must have been his humour in starting this album with those words.
