I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

The cover for this album sucks by the way. Presumably they had no other ideas or George couldnt be bothered so they stuck him in front of some photoshopped clouds and told him to smile/look stupid whilst wearing daft sunglasses (what is reflected in those by the way?). The guitar is the only nice thing on it.
George is nice too… but this photo of him isn’t.

I don’t mind the cover. The album was released in 1987 – almost everything was hideous in the 80s! It’s a period piece, of its time, and far less garish than, say, Give My Regards To Broad Street .

I’ve been saying this for years.
@Oudis – I like the cover mostly because of George’s expression. He has one of those smiles on this cover that could be seen as happy, devilish, sarcastic, etc… It’s kinda like figuring out the expression on the Mona Lisa – probably depends on the viewer’s mood at the time.

I always see it as ‘Look what nice straight teeth I have! —Now that I’ve had them fixed.’
I suppose it’s really not bad for something from 1987. It’s just that I’ve been spoiled with higher standards of fabosity in album artwork…
Same goes for his songs that are verrrrrry 1980s sounding. , but not too bad relatively.

This is a George album I haven’t really given a decent listen to, so I decided to listen to it thoroughly. As y’all were talking about already, it is extremely 80’s sounding, especially “That’s What It Takes”. That song sounds like a stereotypical 80’s song. It’s probably the most 80’s song on there.

One gets used to it after a while and it’s not so garish. Could have been worse… this is the 80’s we’re talking about, you know.

I’m biased because that’s my second-favourite song on the album (after ‘This Is Love’), but come to think of it, you’re probably right. I hate the 80’s gloss but I really like that song anyway… dunno why…
I’ve been referring to the cover photo as ‘George’s “toothpaste-company-spokesperson” smile’.

Yeah it sounds so out of place for George to sing that style of music

Yeah I really am liking the song, but it’s just funny how 80’s the song is. Again its so not George.

It had been a while since I listened to this one as a whole. On my way out the door yesterday, I grabbed it and played it on my way to work…and again today. Man, what a great album! Can’t get enough of it.Wow. You one of those rich folk who have a Turntable in their car?????
I am old school and can’t break away from the term album. I rarely use the term disc. As Macca sang in ‘The World Tonight’, I go back so far I’m in front of me.
Now, if you will excuse me, I think I will go play this album on my hi-fi.
I find it ironic that @parlance thanked this post. The username looked funny on a post about… well… parlance.
Anyway, I thought the term ‘album’ referred to ‘a collection of songs’, no matter the format. I’ve always called them albums, and I grew up with CDs.

“I’m not the wreck of the Hesperus / Feel more like Big Bill Broonzy.” That line was prescient in a way its author couldn’t have intended: Broonzy too was diagnosed with throat cancer in his fifties. Even with nearly a half century of advances in medicine, George would live only three years longer than the early influence to whom he wryly compared himself.

I’ve just published a feature on this album: Cloud Nine.
I’ve now written about all of George’s solo albums (and John’s and Paul’s, but not Ringo’s, sorry). If you’ve missed any of them, they’re linked to from here: George Harrison albums.

GUYS GUYS GUYS
I HAVE MADE A DISCOVERY
So you know how many of us thought this album had a mildly cringey, dated cover? Well. Apparently it could be MUCH, MUCH WORSE.
I have discovered that its cover was recycled into this obscure Russian compilation album’s absolutely tragic, desperate display of Grafik Dezine Iz Mi Pashun:
It looks like an off-brand car commercial from the late 90’s
