I remember reading that the remaster was de-Spectorized.
Is there a CD version that has the original wall of sound production? Is there more than one CD edition that does?
If they despectorized it in 2001 or whenever the anniversary edition came out, then I would guess my jewel case version is the original WOS production. It’s in a double jewel case and contains just the album spread across 2 discs split between side 3 and side 4. Also the Apple Jam is in the right order.
That’s what I suspect as well. I don’t remember that CD sounding very good though.

I thought it sounded fine. About in the same ballpark as the ’87 Beatles CDs. There were decent audible differences between that release and the remaster.

I’m filling in some gaps this month, writing a bunch of features I never got round to finishing. I’ve just published 6,500 words on All Things Must Pass , I’ll do all the songs on the album next, before writing about Harrison’s other albums.

Despite all the Beatles literature I read, I always learn a bunch of new things from reading your articles. All Things Must Pass is an all time favorite of almost everybody, including me, so this is just what the doctor ordered.

Hearing George present some of these songs to the Beatles I can’t help but feel Spector’s production really overcooked the album in places. The beauty of the melodies gets a bit lost in all the instrumentation.
When he discusses doing a solo album with John during the ‘get back’ sessions he kind of says he could probably just bash it out in a week as the songs don’t need much work. I wonder what it would have sounded like if he had just produced it himself.

Hey mates!, maybe i’m like 10 years late but, can you make a top 3 of your favorite songs of the ATMP ? and explain why?, mine is
1.- Isn’t It A Pity , because it’s very, very epic, strong and it has a very great message.
2.- Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), This song calms me a lot, and has a slightly surrealistic lyrics.
3.- Run Of The Mill , this song is a sublime message for our souls, and the way that George sings it is just fabulous.

It would be hard to argue against those 3 songs you have chosen Sexy Sadie and they are three of my favourites too!
I have probably overplayed ‘Isn’t It A Pity ‘ a bit over the years but it is still a firm favourite and one of George’s best ever songs.
However my current 3 favs would be …
1. Art Of Dying – it has a brilliant intro and Clapton’s guitar throughout is fantastic! It is a really good, catchy, rock song and the whole group are in top form, as they are throughout the album … George’s vocals are just wonderful! It would be nice to hear how it would sound with the ‘wall of sound’ treatment toned down a notch, but the sound works well on this one.
2. Behind That Locked Door – a change of pace with this beautiful country flavoured track, apparently a song for Bob Dylan.
3. Wah Wah – another rock song from George, maybe something he didn’t do so much after this album. More great guitar form Clapton. I only wish that the ‘wall of sound’ was turned down a bit and that the vocals and guitar were brought a bit more forward. Would love to hear this song (and album) re-mixed, not sure it will ever happen, but we can live in hope!

The Daily Beatle reports that a new mix of the song ‘All Things Must Pass ‘ is coming, with a promise of more to come in 2021.
“The new stereo mix of the album’s title track is just a taste of more things to come in 2021 as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of my father’s legendary All Things Must Pass album,” says Dhani Harrison. “We’ve been digging through mountains of tapes, and they just kept coming – boxes and boxes of them. Making this album sound clearer was always one of my dad’s greatest wishes and it was something we were working on together right up until he passed. But with the help of new technology and the work of Paul Hicks on this project, we are now able to make that happen. We can’t wait for you all to hear everything we’ve been working on and your patience will be rewarded next year.”
A video is on Youtube, tho it’s not available currently where I am (no idea about elsewhere), and will also be on Spotify and all the other regular places.

If we do get the 50th anniversary ‘JL/POB’, which was at one point scheduled to be coming out, then it’s going to be a really good year with the ‘LIB ‘ anniversary as well.

It depends on what the mix does. If it’s separating out the instruments a bit and making it a bit brighter then it won’t be that great, it really needs to be demixed with some of the Spector clutter gone so the tracks can breathe more. Do that, and we know George felt on reflection that it ended up too much, and it will become the go to for the album. At the moment many of the outtakes are better than the final versions, the same with a good amount of John’s output.
As for the tapes that Dhanni and the team are finding; hopefully we will see something like some of the exhaustive bootleg releases that Dylan has issued, for example ‘Vol. 12: The Cutting Edge 1965–1966‘ where there are 18 discs worth of material. I’d happily buy that. Do it in a few formats so anyone who moans it’s overkill can buy a highlights or deluxe set instead.

Yeah and I hope they’re actually able to release them, Dhani has said in the past to fans that it’s not the Estate that is hoarding George’s unreleased stuff, it’s that EMI doesn’t want to publish it.
If not, Dhani just put them up on MegaFile and let us have our fun, they’ll be worldwide in 6 hours.

By golly that sounds different. It’s clear and clean and doesn’t sounds like you want to skim some of the dirt off to hear it properly!!!
It sounds subtle and inviting, like it wants you to sit down with it to share a coffee and a quiet few moments of your life together. The original gave me the impression that it wanted to hold me down and make me listen to it whether I wanted to or not.
If that goes for all the tracks then I’ll happily pay now for the whole damn super-uber-deluxe collector’s limited edition box to ensure it gets a release. So yeah, I’m off to iTunes to give my money over like a three year old who has been given 30p by his mum to buy a bar of chocolate as a treat.
Here is the list of where you can stream the song and it can be also downloaded from the Apple Store.

Bought it and listened thru headphones to both mixes and it’s like listening to a different song. It’s like three layers have been stripped off and now George is singing, you can hear him properly, the song can finally breathe, and everything is right and incredibly good.

The new mix of the title track is stunning. Like someones lifted a curtain.
Finally there is some space in the music and you can really properly hear the beauty in the song. I always felt Spector ruined the album a bit, some of the songs just didn’t suit his style.
If they get the bonus material right this time I can see me buying this again.
