Agree with all the songs posted above but I also like Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth), All Things Must Pass , Blow Away, and All Those Years Ago. I always thought the last one was a sweet tribute to John Lennon , especially liking the line, “You had control of our smiles and our tears”. Always made me smile atleast.

Joe, Great article! And great work on the McCartney Album!
And Doctor Robert , maybe, but does it really matter?

Maybe not. I'm a traditionalist.
Merry Christmas Eve everybody btw!
You all will have read that Dave Dee is no longer with us. But Mickey and Titch and I would like to carry on the good work that's always gone down in number two.

I think my fav George song these days is Run Of The Mill from All Things Must Pass . I like it because it's about George's feelings as the underappreciated writer in the Beatles – thus the title – that his songs were considered Run Of The Mill .
The words are apparently aimed at John and Paul.
Check out the lyrics:
Everyone
has a choice
When to or not to raise their voices
It's you that decides
Which way will you turn
While feeling that our love's not your concern
It's you that decides
No one around you
Will carry the blame for you
No one around you
Will love you today and throw it all away
Tomorrow when you rise
Another day for you to realize me
Or send me down again
As the days stand up on end
You've got me wondering how I lost your friendship
But I see it in your eyes
Though I'm beside you
I can't carry the lame for you
I may decide to
Get out with your blessing
Where I'll carry on guessing
How high will you leap
Will you make enough for you to reap it?
Only you'll arrive
At your own made end
With no one but yourself to be offended
It's you that decides
"She looks more like him than I do."

Not sure if ‘Run Of The Mill ‘ was written about John and Paul. But that is a great song and also Olivia’s favorite song from George. It is interesting that during the beatles run from 1962 – 1970 that George was not able to write with either Lennon or McCartney or both. I think that it was political and EMI wanted to keep the Lennon/McCartney tradition going since that is what everyone expected from a Beatles album. (if it’s not broke, don’t fix it)
George said in one interview that Paul said he wanted to start writing some songs with him and he replied that “I have only been in Paul’s life for about 30 years and now he wants to write with me”
I think that if George could have co-written songs with both of them, it would have been interesting to see how the songs would have materialized. Outside of ‘Cry For A Shadow’ a Harrison/Lennon song it would have been great to see more of that or even Harrison/McCartney songs on their albums.
I read that in 1961 when the Beatles were in Hamburg and during the recording sessions with Tony Sheridan, that John and Paul had written 70 songs and Bert Kaempfert chose ‘Cry For A Shadow’ to record.

I'm going off memory but I believe in his book “I, Me, Mine” George says that Run Of The Mill is aimed at John and Paul (or maybe just one of them).
I think the reason Goerge didn't write with either of them has less to do with EMI – who I think would have put out anything the Beatles put out – but more to do with that John and Paul didn't have the patience to work with George.
By the time George started writing songs seriously, John and Paul weren't writing together so much as they were meeting to help finish each other's songs. These were young guys (in their 20's) and I think they just didn't have the patience, the interest or the need to work with George.

That’s a great point Robert, by the time George really started to come into his own as a writer, the other two were barely working with each other, much less George. I don’t think George really needed the other two after Within You, Without You came out, before that his best song was probably Taxman and at least John helped him a bit with that. But Within You, Without You proved that George could write some pretty heavy philosophical lyrics without any help.

I'm going to disagree on the “Taxman ” thing, but other than that, that's a really valid point.
(I think “Think For Yourself ” and “I Want To Tell You ” are both better. But to each his [or her] own…)
If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind that is confusing things.

Yes I agree. 'Think For Youself' is a fantastic song and one that a lot of people over look. Paul's fuzz bass lines in that song are incredible. 'I Want To Tell You ' is okay but the worst of the three on 'Revolver ' probably due to the weak and out of tune vocals. I like the 'Live In Japan ' version a lot more.
