My nephew dropped by to say goodbye today. He is moving to Kings Mountain, NC to help his dad resurrect his business. I was watching a Fistful of Mercy video and he recognized them. Turns out he saw them live at Coachella in 2011. He didn’t really know who they were but his boyfriend recognized Dhani. I told him about our little forum fan club and he thought that was quite remarkable. After he left I looked up the setlist:Empire Polo Club, Indio, CA – Apr 17, 2011

Offline Dhani Harrison: “My dad took me to a benefit concert in England. […] This is my first big rock show. I was seven-and-a-half and from my distinction, ELO’s?performance that night was less like a regular rock band and more like what I think a 21st century, extraterrestrial space man with bizarre instruments. […] So after a dozen or so songs my father gets up from his seat and tells me to wait for him with this candy man who had taken us to our seats. He walked off and moments after he disappeared from view suddenly he reappeared onstage carrying a guitar. I began to panic because this was first time I had ever seen my dad play an instrument, ever, onstage in my entire life.?Out of nowhere, in perfect unison, they all kicked into ‘Johnny B Goode.’ I remember thinking ‘What is going on? My father is being abducted by an intergalactic space orchestra.’ ELO has taken my father and left me behind. The candy man assured that he would eventually be returned to us. So we made it back home together eventually and to my joy and surprise with ELO extraterrestrial wizard captain, the man with it all, Jeff Lynne. Offline I’ve been on a Dhani kick since yesterday and falling down a bit of a rabbit hole with IN///PARALLEL, his soundtrack for Learning To Drive with Paul Hicks which I listened to twice yesterday, and of course good old Fistful of Mercy.
Really can’t get enough of this one and have been listening to it on repeat.
And also I discovered this is a thing which exists. 
But really… sings like George, occasionally ventures into acoustic freshness, throws in Indian flourishes and slide solos from time to time, drifts off alternatively into Radiohead-esque soundscapes and dreamy movie soundtracks… he’s practically perfect in every way 
comparisons/influences aside, I do love his voice and his melodic sensibilities on their own merits, very much.

Offline Dhani has signed Billy Idol to Dark Horse Records, with of a preview of his first DHR release, The Roadside EP, due 17 September, appearing a couple of days ago with the song Bitter Taste…
Joe Strummer’s back catalogue and now signing Billy Idol to the label… Dhani’s making DHR look interesting.
I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Billy Idol to the Dark Horse Records family. Billy is a legend, and his music couldn’t fit the Dark Horse persona any better. I’ve loved his music throughout my whole life, so to be able to give this new music a home on our historic label is a massive honour.

Offline I never mentioned this but Dhani was working on a new album the summer of last year and was mixing it with his favourite engineer, Paul Hicks, 10 weeks ago.
