@MarthaI have now listened to In//Parallel. (I attempted to yesterday, but was in too much of a Zeppelin mood to even begin to appreciate the alternative psychedelic void of Dhani’s style.)
I really liked it! It’s very atmospheric and kind of makes me think if Radiohead were fronted by George Harrison . I particularly dug the string parts, and noticed some cool Indian vibes as well, particularly the first track. I think ‘Never Know’ and ‘Admiral of Upside Down’ were my favourites.
Very cool! I love this comparison, it’s so fitting for some songs! It’s really awesome how Never Know and Admiral Of Upside Down frame the album, isn’t it? The album starts off with a threatening almost scary mood. But there is something about those sounds which makes one want to embrace the danger, reflected in the music, that’s a very interesting mixture. The Admiral of Upside Down also features a scary atmosphere but this time there is something different, it’s as if the person who tells the song’s story has learned something, they don’t deliberately embrace the danger anymore, they learn to find a way out of it, so they have grown in the course of the album. At least that’s my interpretation.
Cool drawing, too!

I like that interpretaion. Never Know was a great opener. I really trusted Dhani on the album and was able to let go of my critical mindset and really enjoy the album.

Dhani on World Cafe today – 40 minutes of conversation and music. Dhani sounds very comfortable and at ease with the interviewer, Talia Schlanger, and touches on subjects I haven’t come across him talking about before in this way, such as the night of George’s stabbing. He performs Admiral of Upside Down, Summertime Police and All About Waiting. Well worth a listen.

I’m about fourteen minutes in now. It’s really very good.
The more I hear of Dhani the more I like him; he seems to have his head on straight.

Righteo, due to suggestions (thanks Annadog40). I have created a shiny, new thread dedicated to the wonderful Dhani Harrison. Here we talk all things Dhani, chit-chats, music-bits (whether about thenewno2 or if Fistful of Mercy will ever get back together again), upcoming concerts, gossip, Hair-Watch 2016 – whatever. If it stars with ‘D’ and ends in ‘hani’- this is the thread for all that.As is tradition, here are some photos of Dhannerz throughout the years:
Post away Dhani fans, post away!

I’m happy we have a Dhani thread. In///Parallel is one of my favorite non Beatles albums. I greatly appreciate you, Dhani, and I’m sorry I missed your birthday!

Some Dhani to play in the background for you all. His concert last year at Lollapalooza in Deutschland (in Berlin to be precise).
He’s playing to a very small crowd, must be quite bad for the ego. But in all fairness, there doesn’t look to be that many people in that area in the first place. He does a decent show although I don’t think his music translates very well live- it’s more of a 3am, off-your-head, headphones experience.
Edit: I found the reason for the lack of people, the poor lad was given the Sunday morning slot at 12:30- hard luck Dhannerz.

Dhani made a not-so-subtle hint to Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur about getting that 2nd Fistful of Mercy record out. I really enjoyed the first album so here’s hoping sometime in the near future

It is indeed, I never listen to Beatles’ radio so I applaud them for getting me to finally sit down and listen.

I listen to it more or less every single day, it drives my mom insane.
They never play enough Harrisongs though, they’ll play maybe one solo George song for every two or three Paul/John songs, so it’s nice they’re giving him the representation he deserves
