I am so behind on Dhaily Dhani’s, that I might as well just call my updates ‘Dhani’.
Anyhoo, exciting news everyone *drum roll*
HE’S FINALLY COMING OUT WITH AN ALBUM….rather interestingly it’s a solo album, and we’re not sure who plays on it yet so there be could be some NN2 bandmates on it….we’ll have to see.
It’s called ‘In///Parallel’, and it’ll be out the 6th of October.
Here is the trailer for it:
It’s very thefearofmissingout vibes which I absolute love as an album (it’s my go to ‘airport album’ fun fact, if you ever happen to stumble upon me in an airport, I’m 99% most likely listening to thenewno2.
And another surprise (my, my, I really do spoil you all), a track from the album called ‘All About Waiting’:
Now the vocals are most likely done by Mereki- (who I’m not saying anything about, right) but I’ve posted about her before and he does seem to be hanging out a lot with her since he filed for divorce. He appears to be much happier and productive now than he has been in ages though so good for him!
He did a concert in LA a few days ago, no word if the lovely @parlance attended.
Well that’s it folks, quite an update!

Checked out the albumy stuff that ASJ posted. The teaser sounded very good — I was less keen on ‘All About Waiting’, but perhaps it’ll grow on me. Anyway, exciting stuff!
(I think that teaser was filmed at least in part at Friar Park )

It all was, he recorded the album in FPSHOT.
And, seeing as how I only got online a few minutes ago, and there’s 2 hours left in the 1st of August.
Happy Birthday Dhani!!
And a little extra never-before-scene clip (judging from his hair it’s late 2009-early 2010), where Dhani joins the band Elefant in a little session. Posted online in June, it only has about 100 views (oooh such rarity).

This is very good (except for the part where he starts his solo and the bloody cameraman pans away )

Fab interview with Dhani on RadioEins (trust the Germans to get a good interview done and not the usual crap about his dad).
Looks like there’s to be a Europe tour at the end of this year or the beginning of the next. He 99.99% will not come to Ireland but hey I’m going around the place a lot next year and who knows.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve ignored Dhani all these years. I just dialed up his cover of his father’s “Savoy Truffle ” live and am very impressed. The engineering and/or arrangement of the brass/saxes is superb; and that along with the drums and guitars show attentive respect for the original; and his voice is excellent (with spot on intonations at key points).
The Apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

Very nice new interview with Dhani, discussing his début solo album, growing up at Friar Park, and his role as the custodian of George’s work.

Recently, I’ve read a transcription of an interview with Dhani Harrison with the German newspaper ‘Die Welt’. It’s mostly about his new album and the work on Brainwashed, so not really new stuff but there was one part, I found adorable so I translated it for you. (Apologies if you all knew it already):
[…] He had long thought, however, the Beatles were merely characters of the cartoon movie Yellow Submarine . For a long time, he hadn’t known that one of them was actually his father. ‘How could my father possibly have explained to me, that the inspiration for the bearded movie character was a living human being – it was himself.’ Harrison said, ‘I was only four or five years old. It’s a complicated concept to make a child understand.’
What a moment this must have been when he realised that his movie hero was none other than his own father.
Btw, I think In///parallel is a bloody good album. It creates great soundscapes which are punctured by electronic sounds and percussion in an often very haunting way. One time, I listened to it outside in the dark while taking a walk and the music together with the glimmering city lights made me feel as if I had landed on another planet.

Beatlebug, SgtPeppersBulldogNot once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. @Martha
I have now listened to In//Parallel. (I attempted to yesterday, but was in too much of a Zeppelin mood to even begin to appreciate the alternative psychedelic void of Dhani’s style.)
I really liked it! It’s very atmospheric and kind of makes me think if Radiohead were fronted by George Harrison . I particularly dug the string parts, and noticed some cool Indian vibes as well, particularly the first track. I think ‘Never Know’ and ‘Admiral of Upside Down’ were my favourites.

The whole album contains a little bit of the Floydian Spookiness. The melodies, the soundscapes, its all great.

I meant to post this video ages ago but never got around to it, it’s very cool:
I like the minor animated-Dhani cameo in it.

I went into Galway city today (I hardly ever do), and went into the little music shop that’s on Shop Street. Lo and behold what do I find?!? Dhani’s album! The only time I’ve ever seen any of his stuff was the Learning To Drive and Beautiful Creatures soundtracks in Germany but I would never expect to see anything Dhannerz in Ireland!
It was a fab sight to see and I’m pretty I shout-whispered “ahhhhhhh cooooollll” when I saw it.
Also, bonus Dhani on Conan:
and Dhani on Jimmy Kimmel
