A friend gave me the mp3s of the albums on this set. But I have a 75 dollar gift card. I can wait until I see what I got at Christmas and buy what I didn’t get, or I could buy this box set (which is not on my Christmas list). However, I noticed that the DVD is available separately.
Should I buy the box set, or the DVD, or skip both? Are the CD booklets and the hard back book in the box set worth buying it?
Opinions please.

If you have the songs, the dvd is available separately, and there is other stuff you’d like to get i’d leave the box and wait for a time when its reduced. The cd’s are nice to have but they aren’t anything to get excited over packaging wise.

Thanks for your opinions. I’ll probably spend the gift card on the DVD and some Beatles books I don’t have.
However, a new copy of the box set is significantly cheaper here in the US. I would only be spending 76 dollars to get it, which is cheaper than buying the individual CD’s…I just checked amazon UK and see that the cheapest one is 123 US dollars.

Good plan. I would note that some of the McCartney deluxe sets are very nice and around that price, as is the Ravi Shankar / George Collaborations set if you are into Indian music.

I went with your suggestion and got the Collaborations set. I had only been vaguely aware of this before!
Ah nice – I happened to pick it up locally and had only been aware of it on the periphery of my vision (same with the Carl Perkins CD/DVD). It is a really nice box, beautifully packaged – with a high-quality hardback inside. I haven’t listened to it yet (I am still in early 1969) but really love the sitar, Ravi on the Bangladesh album / film and Anoushka in Concert for George etc. Reviews of the individual CDs are very good and the DVD sounds interesting.

How do you like Collaborations? I got it for Christmas in 2013, but wasn’t particularly interested in it until a few years ago. I now love it, especially Shankar Family And Friends. Jaya Jagadish Haré and Dispute & Violence are two of my favorite songs.

I’ve enjoyed what I heard but I don’t think I ever finished it. I will have to go back and see what I missed.
