I didn’t know Tom Petty covered “I Need You ” — that’s perfect. Must look it up…

Nice… but not as good as George w/ the Beatles
They do a nice job with the awkward guitar lick. Hard to make sound good. Obviously George was able to on the album.

I think their interpretation gets to the heart of the song, that’s why I like their version even better than their (very good) cover of Taxman .

It’s alright @VeraChuckandDave. It can take some time to get used to and welcome to the forum.
I think the video for Crackerbox Palace is funny.
And in regards to the Concert for George I have been meaning to buy it for years but I will wait until this comes out. It was a very good concert.

I got movie tickets for me, Mrs. Textpert and @Ahhh Girl yesterday.
I wish there were a stand-alone Blu-Ray without the CDs, since I already have CD and DVD.
Is this going to be remastered?

Touching tribute.
I hadn’t seen the concert before. This version included interviews. Now I need to watch the DVD and see just the concert.
Did you ask for the poster afterwards? My local lets you buy them for €2-€5 (which goes to charity) if it’s a one-off event or if the film is leaving cinemas.

^ Should have thought to ask. Either @Expert Textpert and I would have had to take it on a time-share plan or ripped it in half.
Maybe ET can check with the cinema.

The Joe Brown song at the end always makes me cry. It’s the best moment of the film.
That is a touching moment. Another is during ‘For You Blue ‘ when Paul turns toward Ringo and they share a knowing smile while they both sing “Same ol’ 12-bar blues”. That one catches me every time.

Well, you know, i’d seen this concert some time ago and well it was ok. Nice moments, very emotional and such. All right. Just right now youtube “recommended” me this video from the concert: “While My Guitar Gently Weeps ” with Petty, Lynne, Windwood, Dhani, and Prince… wait a moment…Prince???? (i asked to myself)…I’ve never been into Prince, his music, art, guitar playing or anything Prince related (i couldn’t even remember if he was still alive at that time) so i never knew he was a Beatles/Harrison’s fan/friend whatever, so i said “Ok, i wanna see that”.
Then the video starts and, you know, there they are, a bunch of guitarrists all playing the same… and Prince, where is he? Oh there he is…at the right side,
just playing the chords and swinging to the music…out of the spotlight…so i said “well, did they really need Prince to be there doing that?…” But , oh, boy, then after the solos, right into the Coda Prince comes a step forward and starts doing his magic. And it was…. well, he really set fire to the show… and then at the end…throws his guitar to the air and leaves the stage as if nothing had happened…
As i said i never was into Prince and, i know for sure, i’m not gonna be. His music doesn’t appeal to me but what a great musician he was, and what a great sense of humor.
Here’s the video just in case you haven’t seen it yet:
Oh, and there’s that guy playing keyboard that looks a bit like Paul, i thought it was him at first… And the guy playing the solos looks a bit Like Neil…

That version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is not from the Concert for George, @Shamrock Womlbs. It comes from the 2004 induction ceremonies for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – which saw both George and Prince inducted.

Ahhh, cool, thank you! it was weird ’cause after watching that video (and writing that dull/long post) i watched the video of Paul playing For your Blue at the Concert for George… and then remembered Eric Clapton was there, but i didn’t see him in the Prince video… and also Dhani was wearing different clothes…so now i understand.

at this point I wouldn’t disrupt the flow of conversation with RN’s reply and everything just to keep the thread tidy, I think it’s fine how it is.

I lovelovelove this concert, but has anyone ever wondered about the inclusion (or lack thereof) of Klaus Voormann?
Klaus only appears to play bass on one song of the whole concert, namely All Things Must Pass . I don’t know anything about the other bassist who’s there for the rest of the songs, Dave Bronze, but I remember reading somewhere that he was the only musician of the tribute band who has never worked with George. Compare this to Klaus Voormann who befriended the Beatles all the way back in Hamburg, shared a flat with two of them in London, designed one of their most iconic album covers, and kept working with them during their solo careers.
So Klaus takes over for one song, and at the start of the next, While My Guitar Gently Weeps , you can see him leave the stage quietly while everybody is already playing. To me, this seems like a very senseless and unfair restriction of Klaus and leaves a bad aftertaste on this beautiful event. What makes it even more weird is that there could have easily been two bass players, surely this wouldn’t be a problem between around 8 guitar players and 3 drummers.
Does anyone know more about this, maybe a statement from Voormann or Clapton?
