There are thousands of compilations where 3 members of a band get together and re-record a song, i dont get emotional about those either.Haha, we wouldn’t be specifically referencing ‘Free As A Bird ‘ now would we?
Actually i wasnt. You get a lot of awful cheap cd’s where 3 members of a 60’s group get back together and re-record their biggest songs so they dont need permission, get royalties and the results are terrible.
The Threetles didnt re-record ‘Free As A Bird ‘ or ‘Real Love ‘.
I like some of Monty Pythons material a heck of a lot. The ‘Medical Love Song’ is brilliant.

He has it with him in L.A I think- I have a vague recollection of seeing it in A Fistful of Mercy music video or it could have been in the jam sessions they did at Friar Park- me know no >.>

12 year old me was kind of interested in Glee in that I saw 2 episodes :P, it was massive in primary school but everybody got bored of it in secondary school.
And no I haven’t seen the Beatles episode- nor do I really want to. I thought auto-tune was used far too much on a lot of the singers on the show and I hate listening to clearly altered songs, so The Beatles episode is a ‘no-go’ zone for me.

That guitar looks very much like a guitar Eric is photographed with on the inside sleeve photos of the Layla LP…….I read it was made for him…..Maybe he gave it to George and Dhani thought it suitable here……Just poplin off to try and get an image of the sleeve…….

Thanks for the video post Billy but i have no interest in watching it.
I too thank you Billy for posting it, and did try to watch it again and liked some of it, but doubt I would venture to watch it again.
Biggest disappointment is why doesn’t Dhani sing a George song?????? He’s got the voice, the looks and even the guitars and backup band!!!!!

The second biggest dissapointment for me was that Klaus Voorman was not properly introduced in any of the concert footage. All of a sudden, there he is. If he was introduced live as it happened, it was not published.
Small criticism, however, for one of my favorite concert videos. I’ve watched it many times and never tire of it. Don’t be pressured into watching it if you don’t want to, @meanmistermustard . I’ll watch it for you! I got you your back, bro!

I always assumed Dhani didn’t sing because it might be too emotional for him. Also, while he may be George’s son, I don’t think the average person knows who he is or would think his singing would be a big draw.
Could be that… oh, now I’m getting all sad again…

Myself, I always thought it was because Dhani didn’t consider himself a front man at the time. I doubt he even considered taking a vocal.
It has to be remembered that the concert took place in 2002, while Dhani would not reveal an interest in pursuing a career in music until 2006 when he collaborated with Jakob Dylan on a version of John’s Gimme Some Truth , and officially formed Thenewno2.
Him being prepared to strap on a guitar and make his public debut at the Royal Albert Hall was a big enough surprise. Nobody asked why he didn’t take a lead vocal at the time, as nobody knew he would go on to become a singer.

Dhani does sing and play in the band, it’s great that he’s there. I’m glad that Klaus is there too. I watched it again tonight, I managed to get to Ravi’s remarks before tearing up, so doing well 😀 It’s a rollercoaster for me and I love all of it, so I try not to watch it too much. I have the same problem with my Queen Live at Wembley 1986 DVD. I can understand @meanmrmustard ‘s reluctance to feel manipulated, but the music isn’t diminished by being played by others and the Indian section is spellbinding. Sometimes the choice of song is particularly gripping, as @Wigwam found. I thought Tom Petty’s rendition of I Need You very sweet; oh god it’s Billy Preston’s solo there I go again, such a wuss and I still have to get through Photograph.
For most musicians, the most sincere and heartfelt way of expressing their spirituality is by playing music, it’s our form of worship if you like, whatever god or thing that is. This concert is a very hard to beat combination of spirituality and music for me.

YES I HAVE SEEN AN OPPORTUNITY!
Sit down class, school is in session 😛
thenewno2 has been around since the early 2000’s, it was originally a graphic designs collaboration between Dhani and Oliver Hecks, hence why the Concert for George DVD and Brainwashed CD say “Cover designed by thenewno2”.
They didn’t get into the music-side of things until as Ron said correctly- 2006 but they have been around for longer than that.
And now you know 🙂
Also I agree with all the above, that the reason why he didn’t sing was he was too emotional etc. if you look on the last song ‘I’ll See You In My Dreams’ Dhani looks like he’s about to cry and he just looks really lost which breaks my little heart but there you go.

Ohhh…. my heart is breaking for dear lil’ Dhan just reading about it. *insert nonexistent crying smiley here*
Funnily enough it was through Concert For George that I first learned about Dhani’s existence. Get comfortable, this might be a while…
It started with Pandora playing the Love version of WMGGW, which I fell in love with and hunted up on YouTube. In the related vids I saw Concert For George there, which I clicked on, and saw this funny little chap with a guitar standing behind Eric who was the splitting image of his dear old dad. Well, it wasn’t rocket science to figure out who it was, especially as some of the comments, inevitably, mentioned how ‘Dhani Harrison looks just like his father!’ A dead giveaway, y’might say.
And that’s how I learned Dhani exists–through YouTube. Oh, the shame

Now in ‘s***e no one asked for, and that isn’t Early Takes: Volume 2’, a deluxe edition rerelease boxset of the Concert for George is coming out on the 23rd of February (they never get the date 100% right, do they?).
It’s the same stuff as the original release but including:
• 4 x LP vinyl set
• 2 x CDs
• 2 x Blu-rays
• 2 x DVD
• 12” x 12” 60-page hardbound book
• Original stage fabric
• Note from Olivia Harrison explaining the fabric
• Uniquely Numbered Limited Edition of 1,000
Aww f**k yes I’ve always wanted some stage fabric!!!!!
Apologies for the language, it’s just stuff like this is such a blatant moneymaker it makes me sad. All I need is my George mugs and we’ve reached Lennon estate status.

It’s worth pointing out, having looked at the official site, that the vinyl version included is the full version of the concert, rather than the edited version that appears on CD:
Side 1
Sarve Shaam – Traditional Prayer
Your Eyes – Anoushka Shankar
The Inner Light – Jeff Lynne & Anoushka Shankar
Side 2
Arpan – Conducted by Anoushka Shankar
Side 3
The Lumberjack Song – Monty Python with Tom Hanks
Sit on My Face – Monty Python
I Want To Tell You – Jeff Lynne
If I Needed Someone – Eric Clapton
Old Brown Shoe – Gary Brooker
Give Me Love – Jeff Lynne
Side 4
Beware Of Darkness – Eric Clapton
Here Comes The Sun – Joe Brown
That’s the Way It Goes – Joe Brown
Horse to the Water – Jools Holland & Sam Brown
Taxman – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Side 5
I Need You – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Handle with Care – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Jeff Lynne & Dhani Harrison
Isn’t It A Pity – Billy Preston
Photograph – Ringo Starr
Side 6
Honey Don’t – Ringo Starr
For You Blue – Paul McCartney
Something – Paul McCartney & Eric Clapton
All Things Must Pass – Paul McCartney
While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Paul McCartney & Eric Clapton
Side 7
My Sweet Lord – Billy Preston
Wah Wah – Eric Clapton & Band
I’ll See You in My Dreams – Joe Brown
Side 8
Etched vinyl with mandala design
Now, if the vinyl was available separately, without all the guff, it’d be on my wish list.

Yeah. I love Arpan. Ravi’s introduction is always very touching. For me the highlight is Ringo’s Photograph.
