I have had the pleasure of meeting @Joe, @Jules, and he is definitely not a tyrant. He’s a very nice man. However, the Beatles Bible is his baby, something he has put many hundreds of hours into, probably into the thousands of hours. And he knows what he wants it to be, and how he wants the forum he attached to be.
You, as I did, joined a Beatles forum, and there are plenty of threads to discuss whatever you want, but his primary aim with the forum was to create a place for Beatles fans to discuss The Beatles. I’ve been here long enough to see when The Beatles were barely discussed, which was and is the whole purpose of this forum, but he has allowed some leeway in that, and allowed opportunities for non-Beatles discussion between us.
Me and Joe, though I consider him a friend and hope he does me, have butted heads many times over the years when he’s felt the need to refocus the forum onto its central purpose. Six months later I’ve always had to admit he was completely right.
Speaking just for me, I respect Joe’s judgement, and what he wants this place to be – a place to discuss The Beatles. It’s why this is the best Beatles site on the interweb by far.

Most likely because Joe missed it when he was locking threads in ATN . Don’t be surprised if it’s locked soon as attention has been drawn to it not being locked.

Due to the very large amount of threads that had to be locked manually (since the only other option was lock all of ‘ATU’ and that was ruled out quickly for numerous reasons) a few were naturally missed. As said I don’t know how many times, the forum is a Beatles forum, folk here surely knew they were joining a Beatles forum and if we open a thread for Pink Floyd why not Dylan, Queen, Prince, Bon Jovi, Katrina and the Waves, Bob Seeger, Emmylou Harris, Glen Miller, Heart and whoever else anyone feels is worthy of a discussion. The list is endless as would be the requests and arguments. I have a memory on the board of a conversion for a one thread suits all artists thread but it was ruled out as it would be chaos with a conversation on Queen being interrupted with an in-depth discussion on the use of the cymbal on the best of Heart CD (or some other examples). If you wish we (the mods) can correct the oversight and lock the Led Zeppelin one (which we have not discussed) or accept it happened, enjoy the fact it’s open, move on and stop highlighting the fact it was missed.
ATN was agreed and opened by Joe when the forum was much smaller, he would never have imagined then that it would become at times so domineering as I doubt he thought so many would join the forum. We mods therefore have a duty to Joe to ensure the very heart of the forum remains and that is what we do. At times measures to do so are not met with unanimous euphoria and cheering when announced but are always done with the forum’s core purpose central.
One thing I will add is that if folk do start going thru the depths of the forum and start pulling up the long-forgotten unlocked threads in ATU for whatever reason, we will look at locking them and almost certainly will.

@edwardtheconfessor , the forum can be difficult to navigate so we created this thread where people can ask if a thread on a topic already exists.

Another way to find a song thread, @edwardtheconfessor, is to look at the song article on the main site, between the bottom of the article on each page and the top of the comments, there is a link to “Join the Fab Forum discussion on…” whichever song it is. If Joe’s done an article on a song on the main site, he’s included a link to the Fab Forum thread for that song.

I think you lost me somewhere, Ron Nasty. Sorry. I am a newbie, as you see. Don’t wanna be a pain, but could you make a bit clearer please? ‘Clear as mud’ at the moment, I’m afraid! And this wouldn’t work for proposing a (new) thread that is not based on a song title??

No problem, @edwardtheconfessor.
You mentioned The Beatles Bible A to Z of songs in another thread. Had you clicked on the article Joe wrote about Cry For A Shadow there, and scolled down far enough down the page you would have seen:
The line in blue which says “Join the Fab Forum discussion on Cry For A Shadow” is a link to the Forum thread for the song. Virtually every song article in the A to Z has a link to its Forum thread, as do those solo songs Joe has managed to do so far.
Unfortunately it’s a shortcut that only works for songs.

Joe has put links to the forum on some of his other pages besides songs. For example, on his main page for the rooftop concert.
But he hasn’t done as many as he has done with songs. If anyone sees a solid connection between one of @Joe’s pages and a forum thread, let him know so he can link them up.

Huh, odd. I don’t know why you can’t access the thread. Try clearing your history for the past 24 hours and see if that helps.
