Someone “mentioned” me in a recent post, and I like that the forum alerted me to that fact – it makes direct person-to-person conversation so much easier, IMHO.
I would like to “mention” more often when I’m directly responding to a person, but I don’t know how to do that.
Can someone clue me in?
Not a bit like Cagney.

Use the @ sign and then begin typing the username of the person you want to contact (it can be case sensitive so be mindful of capital letters), it will bring it a list of the available posters so for yourself its @Pet. . . which brings @PeterWeatherby.

Hmmm … that’s not working for me. I don’t get a list of available posters when I type @ and then start typing, for example, “meanmistermustard” – maybe it’s a browser compatibility issue.
What do you do when the user you want to mention has spaces in their name?

Offline Type the username slowly and pause after the first 2 or three letters to give the drop down menu a chance to bring up the options. Spaces don’t matter as the whole username will appear.

You can also just type the person’s name out to notify them instead of waiting for the drop down menu of usernames to appear – remembering to use the @ sign at the start of course and the correct letter casing.
Edit: Its gone now. Was there a few minutes ago.

Offline It worked for me the first time I tried. But with one thread I couldn’t get it to work, so I tried out this (pretty simple, really)
This is what I did:
1. Copy your comment (if you don’t want to loose it)
2. Refresh the page
3. Paste the comment again and try to “mention” someone, it worked for me!

Offline It looks like the @ notifications you get disappear after one month. I just noticed tonight (after the magical midnight wave of the magic wand of forum date rollover) that a mention Joe gave me on April 2nd is now gone. Poof.

When you see receive a “mention” it appears at the top of the page. If you click on the thread title in said “mention” it will take you there as the link is inbuilt, no need to go hunting for it.
