I want The Beatles Bible to be a friendly place where fans of the group can share info and thoughts. I’m not too interested in setting out masses of rules for people to adhere to, but some basic guidance may be appropriate.
These aren’t hard-and-fast rules, and shouldn’t discourage anyone from writing whatever they want as long as others will find it interesting.
1. This is a forum about The Beatles. There’s plenty to say, so feel free to start new topics.
2. Don’t be shy about joining in. Although some posters are more prolific than others, the stage is open to all.
3. Be polite and respectful to one another. It’s fine to disagree with someone, but don’t be abusive.
4. Don’t be racist, sexist, or otherwise needlessly offensive. This should go without saying, but unfortunately still needs to be said.
5. Don’t be a troll. If you think The Beatles suck, please don’t bother letting us know.
6. In general, try not to be too off-topic when posting in a thread, although obviously some of the most interesting discussions can be wide-ranging. People will probably let you know when it’s time to give it a rest. If you really want a non-Beatles discussion use this.
7. Spam will not be tolerated. Even if you have a Beatles product to sell, why not tell us about it rather than copying and pasting the note you’ve left in a dozen other forums? Always be original and take the time to talk to us.
8. Following on from 7, this forum isn’t a place for buying and selling. There are millions of Beatles products out there. If you want to sell something please put it on eBay instead.
9. Number nine, number nine, number nine.
10. Please flag up any inappropriate messages by using the Report button (there’s one on every post).
11. Users who abuse the forum may have their accounts terminated, but this is a last resort.
12. New accounts will have their first post automatically placed in pre-moderation, until one of the moderators has manually approved it. This is to minimise spam. Please be patient.
13. Posts may get moved to a more suitable part of the forum, normally if there is an existing discussion on the subject.
14. Please do not create multiple accounts. Astroturfing and sockpuppetry is not welcome.
15. If you wish to share files, please use a third-party upload service such as YouTube (for video) or SoundCloud (for audio) and embed the file for streaming. Do not post links to filesharing sites such as Mega, MediaFire etc. It is important that people can trust the content on this forum. Download links may be removed.
16. If you disagree with a mod decision please send a PM to @Joe, @Ahhh Girl, @meanmistermustard, @The Hole Got Fixed, or @Beatlebug. These things can normally be sorted out in private without causing a public fuss.
17. You know what I mean.
18. Don’t be an arse (non-Brits might need to not be an ass).
19. Enjoy yourself.

What if I said something like that I didn't like John or Sgt. Pepper 's or something then would I degrade the forum?

So I shouldn't make any negative threads, then?

I don't mind if someone wants to start a thread on why they think Sgt Pepper sucks. That sort of negativity is fine – state your argument, back it up, then be prepared to justify it.
Abuse is when people are a PITA and keep hammering away at the same point, cause petty arguments and don't listen when people try and steer them away from being annoying.

I think Daniel was maybe confused by mr. Sun King typing “…very thread…” when he presumably meant “every thread”?
(Just trying to be helpful And anyways, when you post as often as our Top Poster does, the occasional typo is bound to slip out!)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

My mistake. I certainly don't want to discourage a Pepper thread!

#9: Turn me on dead man.
It’s like this: If I want to say Pepper might be the most overrated record ever and say I like Revolver better, that’s just stating an opinion and people can feel free to debate it. If I make 20 Pepper Sucks threads, I’m being a troll and a tool.
It’s just cool as all hell that a band that broke up 43 years ago still has an active forum where people still debate over them. There are songs I hate, there are songs I love, but there will never be another band like the mighty Beatles. HAIL THE BEATLES!

Welcome, Paul R, and you’ve got it about right. Though we do our best to step lightly with moderation.
If you’d like to introduce yourself, say anything more, there is an “Introduce yourself to the forum” thread over in All Together Now (pinned at the top).
I look forward to your contributions.

Hi Paul R! Just want to second everything mja said (welcome!), and add that if you look on the main page under “The Albums”, you may find an already existing “Sgt Pepper overrated” thread ideal for your purposes, assuming that wasn’t just a hypothetical example you gave.

I think the flag button has always been there.
The reason for the PM may be that Joe gets it quicker than a flag notification. It was mentioned in a mod discussion a while back but i forget the exact reasoning.

Thanks for raising this. Actually, using the Report button is far better for me than sending a PM.

I’m a new member and I’m thoroughly enjoying the site. Thanks, Joe. I’m one of those people who will actually read the forum rules and try to abide by them.
In reading the comments below the songs, I discovered that there appears to be one member violating the abuse rules – Constantly trying to make every thread a quarrel about why John is great, Paul is bad, and making the same claims about how John was the only good songwriter and that “it was very embarrassing to Paul”. He continually makes assertions that are ludicrous without ever offering any sort of facts or proof to back them up. I understand that people will sometimes have disagreements and that’s to be expected. However, the guy who hides behind the screen name ” Johan Cavalli ” seems to be a thorn in everybody’s side. Is there are reason this troll hasn’t been banned?

Maybe the mods aren’t aware. If you see something like that, maybe report them. Or if you can’t report comments on site articles, could pm mod or Joe I think since mods can only deal with forum stuff).
So PMing @Joe would be the best option if you can’t report since he takes care of main site stuff.
If you can't log in and can't use the forum go here and someone will help you out.
