I posted on this thread on using Photoshop to help bring out Ringo or at least bring out Ringo’s black “V” better in 2nd state Butcher cover pictures.
Here’s some other things that you can look for to verify a 2nd state.
If you are looking at one in person of course there’s the black “V” which should show through pretty good in person.
Also in person if there’s other Beatle or other capitol album covers around you can compare the width of the Yesterday and Today with the other covers.
If it’s a 2nd state cover it will be shorter on the width than the other covers about 3/16″ shorter, this because after they glued the “Trunk Cover” on they cut the right edge to make the slick flush with the opening.
See pic below of my 2nd state of Yand T compared to Rubber Soul .
I did some searching of 2nd state covers and it seems most mono covers are like this,Compared to a non butcher cover.
Hope this helps out anyone looking to buy a 2nd state, I’ve stopped 4 or 5 people on Ebay in the last month from selling what they claimed was a 2nd state ,but it wasn’t.

This reminds me of when me and my friend helped one of my coworkers peel his 2nd state Butcher in 2004. He was born in 1962 and his father was a businessman who also had an interest in the stock market, so he got all of his favorite bands records when they came out. Look for the v and also try to peel it a little, as most copies can be dry peeled up a little due to age. When he saw the v and decided to peel it, it was a painful process and it wasn’t a perfect job and the sticker didn’t come off in one piece, but using a bit of water, some goo gone, a switchblade, and some patience, we finally did it.

I would never peel my 2nd states.I bought a reissue of the butcher cover with the color vinyl to look at so I’m not tempted.lol
here’s my 2nd states I just got the stereo copy a week ago.
My mom had a 2nd state butcher which is now me and my older brother’s, as she got every single Beatles release in stereo the first chance she got. I wonder how many 1st states are still out there.
