I like how Sean looks like they’ve told him to imagine he’s got a balloon.

Perhaps he was holding one and… oh that’s too sad.
ah, he wouldn’t be smiling if he’d lost it. As a victim of many balloon-escapades in my childhood (which wasn’t as long ago as I like to think it was), I still remember how upsetting those incidents were. I’m sure it’s an imaginary balloon, which is impossible to lose.
anyway, yes, that’s a wonderful image. Tugs on the heartstrings, I daresay

John at the Hit Factory on 7 August 1980, first day of the Double Fantasy sessions. Warming up on his Sardonyx, first song on the agenda was I’m Stepping Out. The beginning of an exciting new adventure. Photographer was Roger Farrington.
For posterity, this is my 10,000th Nasty post…

John at the Montagu Square flat he and Yoko lived at after John’s break with Cynthia, listening to various singles while talking with art gallery owner Robert Fraser (centre) and journalist Jonathan Cott (right) from Rolling Stone; photographed by Ethan Russell on 17 September 1968:
For anyone interested in the guitar, it’s the Guild Starfire XII Custom 12-string he was presented with during the Beatles 1966 tour at the Warwick Hotel in New York by Mark Dronge, son of the company’s founder, Alfred.
At Guild we had heard that the Beatles were going to conduct a press conference at the Warwick Hotel in New York. The decision that my father, myself, and Carlo Greco came to was to build one guitar for John.
We had just started making double-cutaway electric guitars and we weren’t too familiar about electric guitars anyway, but we had a reputation already for our acoustic 12-strings. So we figured we should make an electric 12. We only made one because we wanted to make it special – to really pour our hearts into it. It was an absolutely spectacular guitar for the time.
We thought the guitar should be an electric, double cutaway. We would make it with the best flamed maple we could find, and the best pickups we could buy, which I believe were single-coil DeArmond 2000s. We thought the brown stain the most interesting color we produced. I do not remember if the fingerboard was ebony or dark rosewood.

The last picture of John and Ringo, a Polaroid taken at The Plaza in New York on 15 November 1980 during their last meeting.
Ringo remembered the meeting talking to Barbara Walters in 1981:
I saw him on the 15th November. I was staying at The Plaza. We went over to New York for a while. And I hadn’t seen him for a while because, you know, we see each other wherever we are. And he came over with Yoko for an hour and we had such a great time because they stayed five hours. And it didn’t matter that it was a year between we didn’t see each other, it was always fine when we did, but it was a particularly great time that we, that I had, anyway… Oh, man, they were happy. They were two people in one.

Kids, find you someone who looks at you the way John Lennon looked at Yoko.
I noticed it in that Yoko “Haters Gonna Hate” gif that has been posted a few times — at the beginning, John looks down at her in the most solicitous, gentlemanly way imaginable. It’s so cute.

Such a contrast to John and Cynthia. He certainly thrived on equals – artistically, at least.

Yeah. In the most positive sense of the word, John had no sense of shame about his love for Yoko. I find that John and Yoko against the world type mindset really inspiring and liberating. It’s your life – live it. Everyone else can live their own life how they please.

This has always been one of my favourite photos of John, taken by Dan Richter. As we all know, this was used on the vinyl label of Imagine .
