Does anyone have any photos of the long haired, bearded John from late 79 to early 1980?You sure he had long hair and beard then???
A book I read said he grew a long, bushy beard beginning around his 39th birthday and had long hair at the time, and this video from May 1980 seems to support that he kept this look until at least May of that year:

I did a search and couldn’t find that anyone had posted this one of John and Julian visiting the Happy Days TV show set…

Ya. I noticed later in life photos looking like that. I think he was on a macrobiotic diet or something like that.

Gaunt.
John’s wont was to usually carry a bit more weight than that, even in his young and skinny twentysomething days.

In the context of a discussion, the term “skinny” (IMO) would apply here, to this photo. In his younger days (as you mentioned), the guy looked … normal. I mean, he had some lean mass on his frame. Lennon was never shy of a scuffle and got the better more often than not. A “skinny” Lennon (like this) would have been battered. I agree with you; in his twentysomethings, he was fit. This picture was disconcerting.

I’ve heard that. He’d diet and then would fall off the wagon (as it were) and binge, then get back on. He doesn’t look sickly here; looks rather alert and freshly scrubbed, but I’m wondering as well, if he was dieting a bit too much. There are some allegations that he might have developed a disorder from his weight concerns.
Age might have had something to do with it. There are folks who naturally drop excess weight as they get older. Some add, too. He might have been the former.
Then again, he was only 40.

I guess I should have said ‘slim’; poor word choice on my part. I do concur.

Found this photo of John while on a trip in Bermuda in 1980, but I almost don’t even recognize him!
The article I found it in is here: http://imaginepeace.com/archives/11428
Here’s another photo from 1977 (I think)! John is looking mighty handsome!

RIP.
Really sad about Paul Goresh. He had such a poignant connection with John, and no doubt he carried those thoughts with himself every day of his life. I was really fascinated with his story and watched several YouTube documentaries about his encounters with John a couple years back. John was so nice to him considering the circumstances. Another link to those days is gone…but the memory remains.
