I’ve always loved this piece by John. I’d say it’s probably my favorite of his. a-hard-days-night-john-1

Notice the red Hanko stamp in the bottom right-hand corner: John used these to sign a great many of his pieces. I’ve always found it so interesting that he was able to pull in some of Yoko’s Japanese culture into his own work.

Speaking of John and Yoko, I’ve always been impressed with the conceptuality of this joint piece. It’s interestingly and simply beautiful. Love it.

I feel bad that Yoko, as a result of her involvement with John, hasn’t been properly lauded as the avant-garde artist that she was.

And still is…  Her most recent installation is set up in a museum just a few minutes away from me…

Don’t get me wrong:  Those who know, know that she’s a gifted artist.  Unfortunately, the rest of the world pretty much just thinks she broke up the Beatles.

To wit, from a Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode called “The Yoko Factor”:

Spike – “Oh yeah. I can feel it in my bones. Call it the ‘Yoko factor’. Don’t tell me you’ve never heard of the Beatles.”
Adam – “I have. I like Helter Skelter .”
Spike – “Thought as much. My point is the Beatles were a very powerful group. It’s not a strech to say that they pretty much ruled the world. When the group broke up, everybody blamed poor Yoko. The truth is, the group broke itself up. She just happened to be there.”

I absolutely love Yoko’s peace trees. I actually cried the first time I saw one. It’s such a beautiful idea. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this concept, peace trees are “interactive art”: that is, common people–rather than the artist herself–actually make the piece. On each slip of paper that you see hanging from the branches of this tree is a wish for peace or love made by passersby. Yoko once stated that she never reads the wishes because she views it as being similar to reading a diary: the wishes expressed on these pieces of paper should be so personal to the people writing them as to be like a diary.

Her ‘Add Colour’ project is in a museum in my city.  I think I’ll force my kids to go.  They’re young and they love the Beatles, but they’re sort of skeeved out by Yoko because they’re at the age where they hate to see kissing (and they’ve seen footage of John & Yoko together smooching and it grossed them out).

Kids are so wonderfully dumb…

So this is super cool, guys. Looks like lines, right? Vertical, monotone, patterned lines. Well, try shaking your head a little…

Thanks! My eyes are actually pretty bad though. I’m supposed to wear glasses, but it’s been around two years since I have. I’m on my iPod right now, so maybe that makes it easier, although I don’t know why it would.

Here’s an interesting piece by our very own Pauly! It reminds me of an abstracted cityscape, but the initial inspiration was actually music chords… a-hard-days-night-paul-11

…and a couple by Ringo. a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

I really enjoy the alignment of the face in this one and his colorfully graphic style. It’s actually kind of ironic that the subject of the work is smiling when you take into consideration the almost saddened eyes and the bold statement of “HELP” in the background.

Image Enlarger

This next one is childishly captivating. I love how he was able to use such a fun style to create such a serious piece. The man looks scared to me…Again, the point of view is simply fantastic. Ringo really knew how to place his compositions.

Sorry I’ve posted so continuously, but I find this thread extraordinarily addicting since I love art so much. You made a great topic, Kedame! a-hard-days-night-ringo-10

Here’s a few from Stu (how could we forget…?). I never realized how diverse of an artist he was…

That’s fine! Post as much as you want. I have a whole book of Paul’s paintings and a small book of Ringo’s art from one of his concerts. Paul has some very cool paintings of weird faces and some great Celtic looking stuff. Ringo’s faces are simple, but I find them delightful. And he gives all the proceeds from sales to charity. Lovely…

Have you ever come across any of the drawings from Paul’s school notebooks? He really is a great artist. He uses simple lines to make wonderfully expressive faces, mostly profiles. He changes just the mouth, or just the nose, or eyes on a lot of them. I’ll see if I can find a few to post later.

Then, there’s this:

Image Enlarger

I love how Paul’s portion of the painting looks like a vagina. Lol…typical for horndog McCartney. Ringo’s section is actually my favorite. It reminds be of Dr. Seuss’s illustrations.

1966 in Japan when they were hoped up in the hotel. There is another by just John and Paul out there somewhere. I’d find it, but I’m on my kindle.
