Offline He’s very red. John and Paul probably couldn’t have been that red (at least until mid-70s Wings for Paul). Ringo would haave been in crushed velvet purple and (transplanted) sunglasses. George is very red. It’s good to have clarity.

Offline Probably the last visit of a Beatle to the original Cavern, 25 October 1968:
with Debbie Geoghegan;
with the group Curiosity Shop, a last time on the stage where it all began.
There is another picture of him with Paddy Delaney from that day, but I can’t find it online.

Offline The story seems to be this, @Necko, Paul has taken Linda up to Liverpool. Possibly the first time trip to introduce her to the family.
It’s Friday afternoon and they drop into The Cavern.
The Hideaways are rehearsing upstairs (the club has added street level space), while The Curiosity Shop (later The Curiosity Shoppe) were rehearsing downstairs, in The Cavern proper.
Current owner, Alf Geoghagen, asks Paul if he can take a couple of pictures. Paul tells him it’s a private visit but he doesn’t mind. Paul watches as Alf rushes out of the club. He doesn’t actually have a camera. So he shoots up Mathew Street to the Jessops on North John Street, where he buys a camera and film, before rushing back to capture his prey on film before he flees.
Alf has no idea how to use the camera and so Linda takes the photos. Only a few of the pictures have emerged.
I’d guess Alf is the older gentleman standing behind Paul in the photos taken on the stage.

@Ron Nasty, isn’t there some controversy regarding the authenticity of these photos? Per the BB history section Paul and Linda were on vacation in New York that week, returning to London on the 30th. https://www.beatlesbible.com/1…..-new-york/ I seem to remember Paul debunking the story when he played at the new Cavern Club in the 90s, but I’m not 100% on that. Maybe it’s just a mix-up on the dates

Offline There is a policeman behind him on the left, @Dark Overlord, as well as a police motorcycle rider directly behind him. I’d suggest those are the ones making sure he gets into the ground reasonably unmolested.

Offline Wouldn’t it make more sense to use Mal though, I mean just look at him.
He’s big, tall, and bulky, no wonder there’s very few occasions of people trying to get their hands on The Beatles, take one look at Mal and then you think to yourself, better not mess with Paul, Mal’s going to prevent me from doing so.

Ivan Vaughan had a role with Apple.
Lennon and McCartney never forgot the friend who brought them together. For a time they put Vaughan on the payroll of their Apple company, in charge of a plan that never took off to set up a school with a Sixties, hippie-style education ethos.

Vaughan’s death touched Paul McCartney so deeply that he began to write poetry for the first time since he was a child. He wrote the poem “Ivan” about him after his death, which was published in McCartney’s book, Blackbird Singing.
