LOOK! There’s news! Peter Serafinowicz is Paul McCartney in Zemeckis’ “Yellow Submarine”
I’ve been meaning to bring this up, so the timing is just perfect. I need to figure out who these people are first…
What do you want/expect from this remake?
Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!
Funnily enough I posted a news story of my own on this earlier today: https://www.beatlesbible.com/2…..afinowicz/
Peter Serafinowicz is brilliant – the above link has a couple of Beatles-related sketches he did, but really he’s best seen in his Peter Serafinowicz Show and Look Around You (both BBC), plus Shaun Of The Dead and Spaced (another UK TV show).
Of the other actors, the guy playing John Lennon was in a TV show here called Shameless, playing a Mancunian waster (I presume he’s from Manchester rather than Liverpool, but I may be wrong). I don’t know much about the other two.
I’ve been wondering about this film. Part of me reckons they shouldn’t mess with a classic, but if they remake it with enough differences from the original (ie don’t attempt a straight copy) it could be really good. They’ll never get a cameo from The Beatles at the end, though

Pays to read the news on the front page. 😀
He was in Shaun of the Dead and Spaced? Well he should be alright then. I like Cary Elwes (you've never seen the Princess Bride?); his “British” accent passes in the US but you'll have to let me know if it's works for you.
What I don't understand is why they're getting a cover band to handle the music. I guess I should be happy it's not the Jonas Brothers.
I was thinking the same thing about making it new. I would like Jeremy in there some where. And Young Fred. I think those might be your Beatles cameos, Joe.

Cary Elwes is English so his British accents should pass everywhere. Hopefully he can do a Liverpool accent; I'm sure he can seeing as how he got the part.
Hopefully they use the same Beatles cameo at the end or just get Peter Serafinowicz to do his own. I watched his videos on YouTube – he's great!
I also listened to The Fab Four tribute band on YouTube – they sound really good! They're American and I was expecting them to sound really bad but they actually sound really close the real Beatles (and it doesn't matter what they look like in an animation!). “George” didn't sound just right from what I heard and I didn't hear “Ringo” (but he probably won't sing in the film) but “John” and “Paul” sounded great.
Apparently The Beatles' music will be used, but the Fab 4 will be motion-captured for the performances. I presume (from Skye's original link) that the other actors mentioned will be motion-captured for the rest of the film, which seems a little odd – if they can act as The Beatles, surely they can learn to mime musical performances too?
I've not seen The Princess Bride, nor Forrest Gump. I tend to avoid mainstream Hollywood films as I find most of them disappointing (I'm not pretending I only watch arty foreign ones or anything – in honesty I rarely watch films).
If you've ever seen the paintballing episode of Spaced, Peter S played the rival to Simon Pegg's Tim – his character had an affair with Tim's ex-girlfriend. In Shaun Of The Dead he was Simon Pegg's housemate who got turned into a zombie early on, forcing them to leave the house. Both are great if you haven't seen them, and Peter Serafinowicz's Twitter account (@serafinowicz) is usually very funny.
What I'm not sure about is the very point of this film. What next – a motion-capture version of A Hard Day's Night? An animated Magical Mystery Tour ? Stop-motion Help !? I mean, I know Hollywood's going remake-crazy these days, but some films just aren't worth tampering with. I hate to sound precious but if this is a bad film it'll be such a shame to have messed with a classic. That said, the I find the idea of seeing The Beatles in 3D quite exciting 🙂

I stand corrected – he has an excellent American accent. He does some voice acting so you're probably right.
Edit: The point? Besides growing the Beatle brand? Probably not a whole lot beyond that. What bugs me is that they're probably going to keep doing this after they're all dead. Right now they can justify it by saying it has the blessing of Paul and Ringo.

Haven't seen Forrest Gump! Sacrilege! 😛 It's an excellent film, there's even a John cameo thrown into the film, documenting his visit on Dick Cavett, albeit in an absurd voice that doesn't sound much like him, but! It's a great film, give it a go!
Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Oy, this one scares me. Maybe it'll be a masterpiece — who knows? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at this point — but it could be another travesty like the Sgt. Pepper movie.
I agree, Joe — what's the point? I have nothing against a CGI Beatles film, but why remake YS? They could do something original, have it be just as visually dazzling, load up the soundtrack with great tunes, and it would still appeal to the same target demographic of young 'uns and old-time fans.
It only makes sense from both an artistic and business standpoint. A new film with a new storyline would accomplish everything a remake would. A computer-generated Beatles movie is the selling point. That it's a remake of YS adds nothing to the mix.

I read yesterday that it's going to follow the original story line pretty closely. I'll post the article if I can find it again, but there wasn't much beyond that. It's dissappointing. I was hoping for something new. They had better get the humor right.

I've got a bad feeling about this film. I hope i'm wrong. I think the original was from a time and place the remake just won't be able to capture. It doesn't need remaking plus it won't have that little cool bit at the end 'Whats the matter John Love, Blue Meanies?'.
Onward my friends, and glory for the thirty ninth!!

The original wasn’t written by nor did it star The Beatles (except a brief cameo at the end) so remaking it shouldn’t be a problem but somehow it doesn’t seem right. I guess we are all so used to the original that we don’t want change. The old version will still be available and the new version will still contain their songs so it should still be good. The original was groundbreaking in terms of the art so the new one better contain the best damn computer animation ever for it to stand a chance at success. Beatle fans will most likely pan it before it comes out for the simple fact that its a remake of a classic but as soon as we see it (or, more importantly, hear it) we’ll love it. I hope.
My biggest hope is that they keep the same Beatle cameo ending with John and the telescope.

I haven’t seen Yellow Submarine for so long it will be like watching a new movie for me
"If we feel our heads starting to swell.....we just look at Ringo!"

I’ve meet the fab four many times and im really excited to hear them on it!
I think the George you saw on youtube wont be playing in the movie, he is now their sound guy. The guy is Leslie Pring and he is actually from Liverpool which rocks!
I really can’t wait for this movie! I hope I can see it as much as I saw Across The Universe in theater, about 17 times i think.

I guess I’m just confused as to who you think is doing the voices in the new film.
Peter Serafinowicz plays Paul McCartney
John Lennon will be played by Dean Lennox Kelly
George Harrison by Cary Elwes
Adam Campbell is Ringo Starr
