They definitely weren’t fans of the cartoon, @Necko, but that would of been a reason to veto the whole idea. It was Brian’s belief that it would complete the three picture deal with UA that had them agree despite their reservations.
As it was, as the film progressed, they became a little more enthusiastic as it became apparent it was not going to end up like the cartoon.

Does anyone know why the Beatles didn’t do the voices for their characters? The fake Scouse accents are awful…….
Not all if them are fake FM. A few of the actors were from Merseyside
Some dialogue was contributed by Roger McGough the liverpudlian poet to make it more convincing. I agree It’s exaggerated and bit heavy at times, but it suits the animation I think.
Nice clip here with Ringo, Paul and George discussing it:
On another note I really liked this transcript of Heinz Edelmann:

Great clip! Very interesting how each Beatle hated his own voice in the movie – but thought that the other 3 were fine.

From Billboard
The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ Returning to Theaters for 50th Anniversary
From the article:
The Beatles will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine by bringing back the movie — sporting a new 4K digital restoration and a 5.1 stereo surround sound remix — to theaters across North America this July, Billboard has learned. Specific screening dates will be available here. The film is being screened through a deal with the Beatles’ Apple Corps Ltd., Abramorama and Universal Music Group. A new trailer and film poster have been released for the film’s return. The Beatles previously announced a similar 50th anniversary event in January for the U.K. and Ireland with the film playing on big screens there on July 8.
The 4K digital resolution was done by a team led by Paul Rutan Jr. at Triage Motion Picture Services and Eque Inc. The songs and score were remixed in 5.1 at Abbey Road Studios by music mix engineer Peter Cobbin. According to Abramorama and UMG, the digital clean-up of the film was done by hand frame-by-frame without the use of any automated software.
I can’t wait to see where it will be showing!!! http://www.yellowsubmarine.film/

Better come near to me or I’m going to be really annoyed.
Can someone please post a reminder when tickets are going on sale; if I get one I’ll book the day off work.
I presume the mixes of the ‘Pepper’ tracks will be different from the 5.1 in the 50th box.

You’ve got your Glasgow screening @meanmistermustard
And more happier news- the new art cinema in Galway is also showing it. I’ll probably go to the 11am screening instead of the 8pm screening, will probably miss the lads on shrooms in the morning. If there are kids talking though, I might throw a shoe/apple at them.

Thank you, @AppleScruffJunior. I had no idea tickets were going on sale any time soon.
Will book tonight.
Am glad you get to go to a screening near you. Only right everyone gets the chance to see the film.

I think it’s in the UN’s Declare of Human Rights that you have to be able to see Yellow Submarine in a cinema near you at least once in your lifetime.
I remember reading earlier on FB that people who went to the 50th anniversary screening would get ‘limited edition’ crap, however I can’t find it now.
I’m paying for a ‘premium’ ticket for Galway so the costs of the above mentioned crap might be included in it?

Unless you live in a continent not called ‘Europe’ or ‘North America’, in which case you have about as much chance of seeing it as there is a chance Apple will actually release Carnival Of Light in the next 5 years.

Not sure but I wouldn’t put it past Apple to find forgotten crap stuck in a box and try to get rid of it years later by making it look like a fabulous gift for dedicated fans.

^I also wouldn’t put it past them. My YS DVD is a German edition so might explain why I got extra stuff in it than the British release. I’ll report back if we get the same stuff on the 8th of July- that is if Galway is giving things out.
