I donated to this years ago because it couldn’t secure a wide release and was trying to raise funds. Its finally out on Amazon, and its pretty great. Some nice song selections to focus in on his playing and contributions, but most of the great archive footage a lot of us have already seen (Imagine , Exile, etc.)
Hopkins completed the double grand slam, playing for The Beatles, Stones, Who, and Kinks, as well as John Paul George and Ringo solo albums. He was a phenomenal pianist, and thats what the documentary was about. He didn’t have some insane life story but he played with everyone. Even as a longtime Hopkins disciple, I got put onto some cool stuff I hadn’t tried before like his time with Quicksilver Messenger Service, and I hadn’t heard of Otis Spann until Keith Richards name dropped him. Great pianist, and I thoroughly enjoyed this and am happy it finally got released.
