I’m confused. The US release date is supposed to be September 16th. But on this page that lists the theaters and cities where it will be playing, the date is shown as the 15th. (The page has Nashville spelled Mashville.)

Looks like I will have to go on a road trip to Tulsa unless a Dallas location is announced. I would love to go see the movie with @Expert Textpert and Mrs. Textpert.

I’m sure there will be a Dallas showing. They are usually just a little late to the game. I agree, we should continue our tradition.

It’s playing in Philadelphia but the theater has not yet been selected.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Would think more cinemas and screenings will be added in the next few days. Apple are probably negotiating the type of popcorn being sold and how much extra they can add on to the price of hotdogs and drinks.

According to an article in Gulf News

…a newly restored film with remastered sound of the Fab Four’s performance on August 15, 1965, at New York’s Shea Stadium will be screened in conjunction with the Howard picture.

The film has never been released for home video, but it was shown in 1967 as an ABC-TV special The Beatles at Shea Stadium. It encompasses 11 songs and, typical of the Beatles’ performances during that time, lasts just 30 minutes.

It has been given a 4K restoration, and the sound has been upgraded by Giles Martin, son of Beatles original producer George Martin. The concert was captured by 14 35-mm cameras for the film, first shown in the UK in 1966 before airing in colour in the US the following year.

however that film lasted 48 minutes (unless edited for the US in 1967) so unless they have cut 18 minutes out it can’t be the same film; also  ‘Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby’ is listed in the official press release for the exclusive screening yet wasn’t in the above film.

How long would the film run if all the support acts were removed and we just got the Beatles performances?

Bizarre.

Edit

Billboard also have reported the ‘The Beatles at Shea Stadium‘ special will be shown. Along with other details the article writes

The Shea concert, which was first shown in the U.S. on ABC-TV in 1967 as The Beatles At Shea Stadium TV special, had been shown in bits and pieces with upgraded footage in various Beatles projects including 1995’s The Beatles Anthology, but hasn’t been seen in complete form since the original TV broadcast other than on bootleg. Its re-release has long been a major desire of Beatles fans along with their live recordings from the Hollywood Bowl, which will finally come out Sept. 9, and the movie Let It Be  on DVD, which is still in limbo.

The Shea Stadium concert was filmed by 14 35mm cameras in front of 55,000 people and first shown on BBC TV in black-and-white in the UK in 1966 and in color in the U.S. a year later. The film’s new 4K restoration and sound remastering was done at Abbey Road Studios by Giles Martin and Sam Okell, who also worked on the recent 10th anniversary Beatles LOVE show at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, the upcoming The Beatles: Live at the Hollywood Bowl CD and the Beatles 1+ DVD that came out late last year. The songs in the Shea concert include “Twist And Shout ,” “I Feel Fine ,” “She’s A Woman ” and a finale of “I’m Down ” that featured John Lennon running his arm along the keyboard.

and adds later

Schwenson, the author of another Beatles concert book, The Beatles in Cleveland on their concerts in that city, also said there was no footage of “She’s A Woman ” shot for the original show because cameramen were changing films, but he said he was told footage of the song has been located from home movies taken by fans in the stands for the Ron Howard film.

Ron Furmanek, who worked on the restoration of the film for the Beatles, said the quality of the Shea show is superb. “Shea Stadium, other than the sound issues, of everything that was ever shot in the ’60s of any group, I think Shea Stadium is the highest quality film. It looks better than Woodstock, Gimme Shelter, Monterey Pop. It really does. Go look at it in Anthology. It’s stunning. Put on the headphones and look at it in Anthology. You’re going to hear some true stereo there, like ‘Dizzy Miss Lizzy .'”

She’s A Woman ‘ was cut from the special so is that footage in the ‘EDAW’ film? And, again, where does ‘Everybody Trying To Be My Baby’ fit in? And why does no one add ‘Can’t Buy Me Love ‘ to the set list?

How did this get so confusing and chaotic?

I don’t see very many more theaters showing this…It’s going to be a little upsetting if one of my local theaters doesn’t bite.

Call them and inquire. Maybe that will get it on their radar.

I just called one and got a non-answer.

“I haven’t heard anything about that, but you’re welcome to keep checking our schedules.”

“Well, I think the theater has to make special arrangements to show it.”

“I’m not aware of anything right now, thanks for asking.”

Maybe you could try to contact them via  facebook  ( if they have a facebook profile) , so if others do like your question and/or petition maybe they will consider to show the film in their theater.

@Ahhh Girl, upon getting the non-answer from Alamo Drafthouse, I wrote a private message on Facebook to The Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff. They informed me they will be showing it on Friday 9/16.

I’d like for him to come, but I’m not sure what the situation will be with the dog at the time. I’ll let you know more as the time approaches.

Just bought my tix for a showing on Saturday 17 September in Center City Philadelphia. It is at an historic theater now called the Prince Theater. It has been updated with a DCP digital projector and a state-of-the-art Dolby surround sound system.

Update on our situation. @Expert Textpert, Mrs. Textpert, and I have our tickets for the show on the 16th. I will take off half a day from work to drive to meet them. They have a nice futon for me to crash on after the movie. Maybe the Textpert’s cats will let me pet them. A fun time will be had by all.

They’re showing it in Galway as well (yay)…..or at least they should be. It’s on the IMC Company’s website but Galway doesn’t have a screen or time mentioned yet.

Hopefully I won’t be working when it’s on, especially if it’s a once-off thing.
