I think everything should be in color.
It’s funny, just a coupla days ago I was reflecting back on 1978 (specifically a camping trip I was on) and how it was a big deal when the front page of my local newspaper had a COLOUR photograph and how practically unheard-of it was!

Haha, I watched a coupla minutes of one of the dreaded colourized sequences while switching between watching between watching the USA election returns and seeing my Leafs lose 7-0!
Tragic night all around. 🙁

Too bad you ain’t a SENS fan vonbontee! ;o)
Well, seeing the movie for a 2nd time (this time at home) was actually better. I guess I have a better sound system than my local theatre had, and I absolutely love the coloured version of the Washington Concert, and hope it’s gets released in colour.
I’m quite content to have it saved on my PVR in HD, so I won’t have to buy the Blu ray.

Are there different versions? Deluxe vs regular?? Neither would have the Shea concert, so what more could there be???
The deluxe gives you extra silent blank screen time between the interviews with various celebs who offer little insight.

The deluxe comes with a “complimentary” Piggies -bank that only takes notes, and includes the warning: “Only to be broken open in the event of new officially approved and overpriced tat. Watch out for Blue Meanies and Mean Mr. Mustard’s who tell you Apple doesn’t take care of the customer!”

I don’t get the negativity toward this movie.
I think that while there are nice things about the movie – some new footage, interesting new commentary, the fact that it is about the Beatles – most of the negativity is about what it ISN’T more than what it actually is. Beatle-geeks are disappointed about what is skipped, overlooked, ignored or glossed over by the film and by some of the choices like colorization and flying in audio from different sources.

I think the promise of rare & unseen footage is what let people down. There is probably 3 minutes of stuff, that I never saw, (not including the coloured versions of B/W footage). It is basically a shortened version of Anthologies.
It’s alright, but I won’t be buying it. If you like it, that’s all that matters….

Well, then they should get over themselves and judge the movie for what it is.
What we got was very far away from what they promoted it as. If someone invites a wine connoisseur to a wine tasting evening with many rare vintages yet when he/she turn up they find 99.3% are common varieties (tho a few come in fancy wine glasses) they are not going to say what a lovely time it was. They will be pissed off.

I finally got the chance to see this movie. I liked it. There weren’t many new things I got from it, but I thought it was well put togeher. I think it’s a great way to introduce someone to The Beatles.

Yesterday I finally got around to seeing the movie, and I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. I didn’t learn anything new I must admit (I didn’t expect much as I knew there wasn’t any new information), but as someone whose main reason for seeing the film was being able to see the Beatles in great quality in a big screen, I wasn’t disappointed.
I’m not a fan of colorization and I thought it was going to bother me a lot more than it actually did, but still I didn’t like the colorized parts that much.
My favourite parts were definitely the Shea concert at the end and during the credits when the 1963 Christmas message was playing (I know, strange and it has nothing to do with the movie, but I thought it was nice, I mean, it’s December). And maybe I also enjoyed the bits of Help a little too much, but it’s the closest I’ll ever get to the see that film in great quality (someday I’ll get to see that part of the bathroom scene in the big screen).
All in all, If you just see it because you want to see their beautiful faces, it isn’t bad, I was expecting a lot more of new footage, but I can’t say I didn’t like it. I’d say this is better for those who don’t know much about the band rather than those who really know their Beatles.

Have you watched those extra extras yet?
No, still haven’t. I’m notoriously slow about things like this. I still haven’t watched the DVD of episodes of John and Yoko on the Dick Cavett show that I bought last Christmas. I’ll get around to it, though. I finally finished watching all of the original Ed Sullivan episodes that have The Beatles on them.
