I just saw it a few hours ago. It was enjoyable and I liked it but I don’t think it’s something I’d watch more than once or twice.
I wish we got to see more of the unseen fan footage, I don’t care what the quality is like, anything never-before-seen, ASJ wants her greedy little mitts on it.
There were about 7 other people in the cinema with me (all auld ones, reinforced the fact that I’m not hip or down with the kids anymore) and they all seemed to enjoy it. They were all going to leave when the credits came on but I told them to stay because Shea!
I really enjoyed the Rooftop and Shea footage, it looked great (and reinforced my idea of how good looking George was….woof, also yes random girl he does have sexy eyelashes).
I have to admit I scoffed when AG’s “Paul gif” came on, I think it’s really appropriate that he was singing “I’m Down ” at that moment…….(maybe I should have kept that for 50 Shades of Beatles’ Bible).
Overall I’d give it a 7/10, entertaining but didn’t have much info and didn’t use as much new footage as it could also the colourised segments, (in particular their New York press conference was kind of jarring to me).
It also reminded me that I really need to buy the deluxe edition of ‘1’ if just to fawn over George in Rain , but hey what can you do?
Also 10 points to the woman singing along to ‘Baby’s In Black ‘- that’s a true fan, right there!

Roger (Wogew) also says in the comments on that page:Why no Shea on this release? Because this release is a joint venture between Apple and a whole bunch of other companies, none of who had anything at all to do with the restoration of Shea. So why on earth should we expect Apple to share the profits of selling the only colour concert film of the Beatles with all those companies when they would rather release it on their own later on?
Fair enough. Any reason they can’t release it as a stand alone product or are they concerned it will stop everyone rushing out to buy the documentary?
"I told you everything I could about me, Told you everything I could" ('Before Believing' - Emmylou Harris)
I get the feeling Apple have a ton of stuff that’s ready to go. Restored versions of the Let It Be film, Shea Stadium, colourised Washington concert etc. They’re just planning the release schedule very carefully.
They probably wanted to set everything aside to give the Ron Howard doc a place in the spotlight. They seem to have had high hopes for it, hence the Leicester Square premiere, Paul and Ringo, blue carpet etc. Quite a lot of hype for what was a lesser work than Anthology.
Putting out Live At The Hollywood Bowl was an interesting move too – they could have released that ages ago, and not in conjunction with EDAW at all. Remember the “bit of hype” debate over Let It Be, between Paul and John in 1971? It’s astonishing to think they’ve put bloody Ron bloody Howard’s name front and centre on the cover of a Beatles album which he had nothing to do with. Superdeluxeedition put it best:

It wouldn’t really make sense for them to release Shea now – if people want to buy a film, Apple want it to be the Ron Howard one. If people want an album, Apple want it to be Hollywood Bowl.
If EDAW and LATHB do well, it paves the way for them to release a lot of older stuff under the same umbrella – “Weren’t the Beatles great live? Here’s some more!” They could put out a 1+ -style box set with Shea, Japan, Manchester 63, Washington, even the old Cavern clips. Each full gig was only around 30 minutes, so they could cram it all onto a disc or two. And there’s *loads* of incomplete live stuff on YouTube, more on Pathe and in other clip archives.
But then I’m an optimist. Knowing Apple, they’ll probably do nothing for a few years, put out Shea or the Maysles Bros film Out Of The Blue , then nothing for a bit longer.

The trouble is there is no precedent for Apple acting on success unless you reason that the success of ‘Live At The BBC ‘ helped pave the way for ‘Anthology’. ‘LATBBC’ could easily have been the springboard for a second volume, even if they waited a few years after the Anthology, but it took 19 years. The ‘Anthology’ releases could have been used to start opening the archives with expanded live, BBC, studio volumes but aside from the few remixes (‘Love’, ‘Let It Be Naked’, ‘Yellow Submarine Songtrack ‘) we have seen nothing in 20 years until now aside from remastered reissues.
Remastered Shea, the ‘Let It Be ‘ movie and god knows what else have been sitting ready to go for years yet nothing has seen the light of day and Apple will go way overboard for any Beatles release; the biggest surprise of ‘1+’ is that they didn’t push it nearly as much as most expected.
The only hope for more upcoming is that releases have become more frequent over the last few years;
‘Live At The BBC Volume 2′ and that official iTunes bootleg in 2013.
US albums in 2014.
‘1+’ in 2015.
‘Live At The Hollywood Bowl’ and ‘Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years’ in 2016
I openly admit I have become so cynical towards Apple as they take so long to do anything and when they finally do get around to it what we get is lacking. I’m not expecting a wealth of outtakes immediately but they could do so much more so the fans who are fed up for once get excited and then get that excitement met; no idea when that last happened for me.
Going back towards the documentary why was the 1963 Christmas message edited, totally ruined it?

It was probably edited to fit the length of the credits.
At least you are not an Elvis fan. Elvis fans have the opposite problem. There is so much good stuff coming out all the time no one could possibly buy all of it.
The “Apple can’t do anything right” claim does get old after a while.
I see no one answered my question above. Where is all the footage on the movie previously released? There was a good amount I hadn’t seen. Are people complaining they included stuff they’d already seen on bootlegs?

Possibly. I wonder if its the same edit that was on ‘Rock Band’.

You’re right. I’ll shut up.

It may have been in the Anthology or in any of the numerous documentaries out there that aren’t official or online (youtube etc) or on bootlegs.

Very Carefully. Unfortunately all the original fans will be dead and gone by then!!!!!!!
Like come on Apple, the boots of all these shows look great and have been out for Decades, why keep putting it off!
The colourized version of the Washington Concert was a treat, I must say, and would love to see that completed!

Heck, I’d settle for a colored “A Hard Day’s Night “, if it was done correctly! It’s time we moved into the 21st Century!

Same here. I forgot about how much I did not like that.

So all B&W films should be colourised because its now the 21st century?

I think they should be done like the Laurel and Hardy DVDs are, offering a colourised and b&w option. That way everyone is pleased.

I’ve seen colourised Laurel and Hardy films and to me they looked awful. I see no problem with B&W.

Oh I know, I was a massive L&H fan when I was a wee sprite but I always watched them in B&W.

Randomly picking the first that comes to hand here is a comparison of ‘Scram’; I have no idea when it was colourised, restoration history etc and i’ve never seen this before.
Laurel and Hardy are very funny by the way.

The only L&H I have that’s colorized is “March of the Wooden Soldiers” a/k/a “Babes in Toyland”. I prefer the black and white with them. Sons of the Desert is a fave.
