Nothing can beat my annoyance at the audience in the cinema.
Who the f**k claps a film and when people appear on screen?
If you want to have a chat piss off out of the cinema?
And put your phones away. If you can’t manage to go 2 hours without using a phone go and get therapy!
I don’t mind that one as long as it’s short and not disruptive. When I went to go see The Force Awakens, everyone in the audience clapped when the opening titles came on but it was only for a few seconds.

- The colourisation didn’t bother me too much but it was entirely pointless and added nothing of any significance or worth. Are Apple still bathing in the reaction to the colouring of ‘All You Need Is Love ‘ in the ‘Anthology’ series and hoping to repeat it? Please will someone tell them to stop.
WHAT?!? All You Need Is Love wasn’t originally in color?! That honestly blows my mind.
Since I didn’t get to see this in the theatre, I don’t know if I should get a Hulu account to watch it (I get a free week-long trial), or if I should just wait until I get it for Christmas or whatever.

I thought it was in color originally as well. Isn’t that why the Rutles had “Love Life” in color?

I did the free Hulu trial this weekend just to see “Eight Days…”; sort of like a dry run to see if I want to get the DVD for Xmas (I do).

I watched it yesterday at home, on Hulu (twice!), and really enjoyed it. Yes, it was nothing we didn’t know, but what really got me was the restored quality of the 1963 shows. Made it seem as if those concerts happened recently, instead of 53 years ago.My only regret, though, is that I wish I could have seen it in the theater to see the Shea footage.
This basically how I feel about the film as well.

The programme was originally broadcast in black and white.
Wikipedia: Although the program was originally recorded and transmitted in black-and-white, for its usage in the 1995 TV special The Beatles Anthology, The Beatles’ performance on the 1967 program was colorized—using color photographs taken at the event as a reference.[10] The sequence opens in its original monochromatic format and rapidly morphs into full colour conveying the brightly coloured “flower power” and “psychedelic“-style clothing worn by The Beatles and their guests that was popular in 1967 during what was subsequently dubbed the “Summer of Love“.[10]

Hi, I saw it Thursday at my local cinema and although no new information, it was worth sitting through the painful hour long parade of V.I.P’s? until it started.
The very best part for me was after the credit roll, seeing and hearing the Shea stadium gig properly for the first time, I was tempted to do a modest scream myself…almost.

Welcome, Penny Lane . I was a bit winded from singing silently along…I did it with gusto
When I saw it, the people in the theater clapped when they saw Apple’s apple at the beginning of the movie. Strange. Lots of people sang along with Eight Days A Week during the credits.

Thank you and hello. The live screening to our cinema of the arrivals at Leicester Square cinema was painful, Paul and Ringo did not look too happy standing side by side, it was a pleasure to see them nonetheless. But the short conversations with Olivia Harrison, Yoko Ono etc. were stilted, awkward and a bit unnecessary. Just capturing the sheer energy and excitement of them in the early years on the big screen was amazing. I wonder if a follow one will be done by Howard?

Just finished watching the film on Hulu with my girlfriend, who I am trying to convert into a Beatlemaniac. I got her to listen to Help ! and Abbey Road , and now this. I dunno how well it’s working
Anyway, we both liked the film quite a bit! I of course, didn’t learn a whole lot of new information, but it was really exciting to see footage I hadn’t seen before! I nearly lost it when I got to see live footage of a certain song (which I won’t spoil) during the end credits! The film did a really, really good job of showing me just how crazy it was back then, what with the mobs of screaming girls and whatnot. Kinda sucks that i didn’t see Shea Stadium because I watched the movie from my couch, and not the theater, but oh well (PLEASE APPLE, PUT THAT ON THE DVD!!!!).
Overall, just a really good doc.
That is my review, and that is all.

Interesting, I just saw that the deluxe home video release will have five rare full-length performances.
It’s the same five performances we saw in the film but will be complete.
The Beatles in Concert (12 mins)
Five great but rarely seen full length performances of The Beatles live in concert – Twist And Shout , She Loves You (both manchester ’63), Can’t Buy Me Love (NME Poll Winners ’64), You Can’t Do That and Help ! (Blackpool, colourised). These are just the full versions of songs already in the final film.
Wogblog (the source for the above) has details on the DVD & Blu Ray releases.

Roger (Wogew) also says in the comments on that page:
Why no Shea on this release? Because this release is a joint venture between Apple and a whole bunch of other companies, none of who had anything at all to do with the restoration of Shea. So why on earth should we expect Apple to share the profits of selling the only colour concert film of the Beatles with all those companies when they would rather release it on their own later on?

We went to a screening on Saturday night. For some background, I will start by saying I haven’t been to a movie theater in about 20 years – I can’t even remember what film it was we saw. So when this project was first announced years ago, I knew it would be the film that got me back into a theater again. If I recall correctly, everyone initially involved with this project begged people far and wide to send in Beatles concert footage as this film/documentary was going to focus on The Beatles live in concert. This had my imagination racing ever since, wondering what footage would be uncovered and shown. I just had to see this film on a big screen. The closest theater showing it was in Center City Philadelphia which meant a drive of over an hour, plus trying to find a place to park in Philly on a Saturday evening. On the way, we got stuck in a huge traffic jam and then could only find a parking lot within walking distance to the theater that was going to cost us in excess of $30 for the time we needed. It took us two hours to get to Center City, park and then fast-walk to the theater and find seats about 15 minutes prior to the start time. I didn’t care. This night was going to be great. Before the film started, a local Classic Rock DJ and Beatles nut announced that after the film we would be treated to the refurbished Shea Stadium concert. This night was going to be awesome. As an added bonus, we would then be treated to a short Q&A period with local news broadcasting legend Larry Kane who travelled with The Beatles during their first US visits. This night was going to be unbe-freaking-lievable.
The Shea concert and the Q&A with Mr. Kane were wonderful. The film was incredibly disappointing. What had been billed as a docu-film about The Beatles touring and live performances was nothing more than Anthology-lite. Where the Hell was all this rare footage we were supposed to see? Most of what was shown had been shown in many places before. There was some that I had never seen, but not nearly on the scale of what I was expecting. Even worse, a complete performance of any song was not to be heard or seen because each song was interrupted by a spoken interview. Seriously?!?! This film could have and SHOULD have been so much more. Major bummer. It was so not worth the hassle of getting there and back.
I will say that Mr. Kane was very entertaining. My favorite story he told was about how he interviewed Jimmy Carter three days before the election that would end Carter’s bid for a second term as President. Being so close to the election, solo interviews were not easily obtained. Before the interview started, Kane found out why he was given this rare opportunity. Carter asked Kane to please return the favor by telling the President what it was like to travel with The Beatles.
I may or may not buy the DVD when it is released. It would be nice to add to my collection, but I won’t be in any hurry to own it. If anything, I’d rather own the three Beatles books Kane wrote.
