I came down with the flu a couple of days ago, tossing up whether to go this morning, I’m not at the coughing stage yet hmm.
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

For the first few shots of the Washington Coliseum concert, they forgot to colourise Paul’s bass…
Anyway, definitely worth watching at the cinema because it’s great to see the Fabs on the big screen– but the film itself is nothing special.
I’m not going to complain because I’m sure lots of other people will also want to do just that so I’ll be positive. The remastering was pretty good, most of the film was about the Touring Years and it had a few interview clips that I hadn’t seen.
And obviously, it’s the Beatles! That’s the whole point of going to see it.

I guess that means Paul had to have seen it and not noticed that detail.
Why are they colorizing anyway? I guess I’ll see for myself tomorrow.

No idea. It was really grating (for me) and painfully obvious. My parents didn’t notice though so it’s probably a thing only we nuts would care about.

As you are all aware I am a huge cynic and will grumble about anything (and normally do) but I really enjoyed it. Yeah there are many issues up for and worthy of grumbling but for an 80 minute or so documentary about the Beatles it was highly enjoyable. Reminded me why I love the Beatles so much.
As for it being a slimmed down revised Anthology what were you expecting? It covers the same years. Bass-wise colouring I didn’t notice, i doubt I cared, i was enjoying myself too much.
So before the moaning begins and Apple and everyone involved gets slated for 9 billion reasons I’m happily blissful.
Nothing can beat my annoyance at the audience in the cinema.
Who the f**k claps a film and when people appear on screen?
If you want to have a chat piss off out of the cinema?
And put your phones away. If you can’t manage to go 2 hours without using a phone go and get therapy!

I absolutely cannot complain about the documentary content of the film – I wasn’t expecting some impressive revelations in regards to what happened during the touring years – it’s all very well-known at this point, and covered by multiple sources. It was incredible to see live footage of the band, particularly on the big screen — I’m too young to have ever witnessed The Beatles live, and this film’s the closest I’ll ever get to that unless I build a flux capacitor in my garage. The 30 minutes of Shea Stadium footage towards the end were enjoyable, too, and I’d be surprised if they weren’t included on the home release as a bonus feature, in spite of being hyped up as “exclusive to the theatrical release”.
Got to agree with the complaints about the audience – some singing and clapping along to the songs, but I expected that. I did not, however, need the all-too-loud conversation about things we’ve just been told, by way of a drunk so-and-so in the row behind me. It’s not like the tickets were cheap, either, at £15 for the screening… a good 50% more than a normal film. Surely, if you’re spending that much, it’d make sense to not be a jackass around the cinema full of people who’ve done the same.
Looking forward to the inevitable pre-Christmas DVD/Blu-Ray release, even if a UK release doesn’t have an ETA yet, just so I can watch it again without the running commentary.

Ticket-price wise i got mine for £10 because i went to the GFT not knowing or realising it was being shown everywhere. If i had of went to the Odeon (a five minute walk away from the GFT) it would have been £17!! No idea why there is such a difference in price.

My Odeon was either £15 for the standard (awful) seats, or £17 for the actual nice seats, all of which had been booked. As for the difference in price, Odeon categorises all one-offs as “event” tickets, essentially to justify marking up the ticket prices; and also so people who pay for the Odeon “unlimited” subscription (a concept that baffles me) are unable to get in without having to pay extra.

It cost me £9.52 to go see ‘Suicide Squad’ (i got a discount because i’ve an online account so book that way – i’ve now seen 3 film in the cinema in 8 years, all within the last 11 months). Its unwarranted daylight robbery to therefore charge an extra £7.48 to go a special screening.
I should also add that despite recieving an email that the screening i went to was sold out there were seats unfilled. I had 6 around me giving a perfect view (no one in front).

Just saw this movie with Shea right after. I thought it was really good, with a more defined story than the early parts of the Anthology series. And Giles Martin did his job well.
My favorite part was the rooftop at the end.

Did anyone notice the bad continuity error in the Shea Stadium film? Although it was probably in an earlier edit, in Hard Day’s Night, George is briefly shown with his Tennessean at least three times when the film of the song is shown from different angles. He was of course playing his Rickenbacker for the most part.

When will Apple learn that they need to get people from this forum, I’m looking at you @pepperland and @Maldonfan, to preview films to help catch the errors. Good catches you two.

What gets me is that the Liverpool showing last night was referred to as the “World Première” of the film, yet all of the “blue” carpet activity happened in London. Why call the Liverpool the “World Première” if you can’t get Paul and Ringo (and, to a lesser extent, Yoko and Olivia) to get on a train to feckin’ attend it? You can bet that if they’d said they were going to the “World Première”, virtually none of those people who attended last night would not be there.
Apparently Liverpool had to put up with “blue” carpet interviews being broadcast to them from London. It ain’t often a “World Première” is not attended by anyone involved in the film.
And, from what I hear, those “blue” carpet bits Liverpool got from London were pretty dire. It seems that at one point professional Scouser John Bishop asked Paul, Ringo and Ron Howard whether it would be good to still have John and George around to have more up-to-date input from them into the film. Now, I can think of many, many reasons why Paul and Ringo would rather John and George were still with us, and I doubt the idea they might have an anecdote or two for this film is high on their list.

I put some thoughts up here: https://www.beatlesbible.com/2…..-premiere/
I liked it, with caveats. I probably wouldn’t watch it again, but it’s always great to see The Beatles, especially in the cinema. I guess I had the same problem I have with a lot of Beatles books nowadays – there’s only ever about 5% that I hadn’t seen or heard before.
Wogblog called it correctly back in May: http://wogew.blogspot.co.uk/20…..-from.html
I wonder if there’ll be a director’s cut which expands some of the stuff they glossed over (eg Brian Epstein, Mal and Neil). The DVD and Blu-rays are already up on Amazon, but it looks like mainly extra interviews on disc two.
I LOVED Shea Stadium, though. It was billed as exclusive to this event, but they’d be daft if they didn’t make it available to everyone. The sound and picture quality were both incredible. And I don’t particularly care if they included some of the 1966 overdubs (though thankfully they kept Ringo’s performance of Act Naturally ) – most live albums and films are sweetened in the studio, and let’s face it, these are overdubs by The Beatles a few months after the show, which just about makes them authentic and certainly historically significant.

Oh, and how frail and nervous did Yoko seem in the interview before the film? She didn’t look particularly well to me. Olivia seemed nervous too.

I agree. Not enough Neil and Mal. There was one interview bite with Neil, but that is all I remember.
In a movie about the Beatles touring, shouldn’t the roadies have gotten more screen time than Whoopi Goldberg? Come on! I’m pretty sure their full names weren’t said out loud.
I loved the clip where john says “Mal, we need these drums turned around.” Unfortunately, he didn’t get much coverage otherwise.
