John was a guest DJ on US radio show in 1974 around the time of Walls And Bridges and like all the DJ’s at the time he read out the adverts and took phone calls from listeners. The above was the KHJ station back on the 27th September 1974 on Superstar Week. John was brilliant on it and the whole thing is worth listening to (the music itself has been removed), listen out for his comment on It’s Only Love .

Royal Mail. All You Need Is Love . I don’t quite get the song selection and the message they are trying to make. It’s a business trying to survive, they need more than love, i doubt they will send my letter free, or am i meant to love going with Royal Mail because they love parcels.

Hahha yeah I saw that advert and thought the same thing – they deliver my letters, what’s this about love? Noticed they did it like the Across The Universe film, too, just vocals. Surprised me hearing that on the telly. I wasn’t paying much attention so I wondered if I was hearing things.
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

I thought this was an interesting aside about the Royal Mail ad, the choir used on it is the Royal Mail Choir set up by Gareth Malone during the first series of the BBC’s The Choir: Sing While You Work. I think it’s good that they chose to use the amateur in-house choir rather than get a professional one.

That is one dreadful Lennon impersonation. Can people stop putting Johns name and image to shitely done projects. Good cause but atrocious advert, couldnt it have been done another way? Sorry, forgot this fits in with the ‘peace-loving, Imagine John’ so even if its s**t and tacky its ok.

There’s an unpleasantly soul-less version of Revolution advertising something or other on UK TV at the moment. I can’t say that the product has registered at all.

A month or so there was a commercial going around for a car out there that had a terrible cover of Revolution as the song, maybe that was it. I have no idea what type of car it was as the awful Revolution was the focal point of attention.

Harley Davidson has a commercial with a Come Together cover. Very lame. Paul made a push in the late 80’s early 90’s to try and get Sony ATV and Jackson to stop using there songs in commercials. Jacksons excuse was it was exposing kids to the music. Which is a joke. Totally pisses on The Beatles artistic vision and significants. I also remember a few years back there was a a mattress Commercial in the US that used an In My Life cover. Seems they use more of Johns songs. The laptop thing is extremely creepy and sounds so strange.

No, it’s not. They could have achieved the same thing – if they just had to – with a voiceover talking about John in the third person.

I’d rather they used cover versions of Beatles songs instead of the originals. Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love is currently being used in a Tesco advert for Mother ‘s Day, horrific seeing that song being cheapened for a few lousy quid. Queen songs have a history tho of being used to sell any product no matter what but considering how Brian and Roger are cheapening the bands name by Queen+ its not a surprise.
I get pissed off by Apple’s incompetency and iron grip on the Beatles name and catalogue but thank God we aren’t having to hear John sing Please Please Me in a cat litter advert. Just remembered Instant Karma in a car advert.

Thanks to the poster at Bootlegzone for the heads-up here are a couple of very cool Ringo adverts (not cheap and tacky where he flogs crap)
(Parlance may have previously posted the latter, or the former – or both!!)

I think it’s great that the Beatles’ music is still considered relevant enough to use in commercials.
Me too, unless it’s not done tastefully!
I didn’t mind when Michael Jackson was pushing “Revolution ” for Nike shoes, or whatever it was!
But for me, I’d rather hear the Beatles version over someone else doing it!
