It would be cool if Apple released a set on Blu-ray and DVD –  found that Apple bought the rights to it awhile back, so perhaps they plan to do something with in the future (or they just want to make sure nobody else buys them)

Thinking they want them gone….. paul-mccartney

I’ve seen pictures of the cartoons, but never actually saw a video, that is until now. I agree with some of the previous posters. They’re alright for a laugh, but the American accents are awful, and couldn’t they at least have tried to find actors that sounds remotely like the Beatles? I’ve seen two now, but I’m not itching to see more. Give me Yellow Submarine over these any day.

I was 8 or 9 years old when the reruns started (1970 I think) and looked forward to them every weekend. At that age, who gives a fig about bad accents and story lines? The Beatles were cartoons on TV! Woo-hoo! Such a fond childhood memory.

Bring on the collectors set! They will sell at least one. a-hard-days-night-john-1

^^I haven’t seen these cartoons since they were first on the mid-60s. I remember enjoying them as a source of Beatles music as well as for some laughs. A few months ago I was looking for images to celebrate Starr’s 10000th post and found all sorts of cool screenshots. @Beatlebug didn’t you mention sleeping with your Martin on occasion? Looks like your not the only one 🙂

I’m ambivalent about whether to watch the cartoons. I’ve almost bought the series a few times but held off.

Watch a few episodes online first, if you don’t like it then don’t buy it.

Maybe watching them with the sound turned off and making up the words in your head is the way to go. You could make them sound like The Beatles. a-hard-days-night-george-10

^ At that point, you’d have an abridged series.

Yeah, that’s understandable. They couldn’t possibly hold the same magic for anyone who was not alive when the cartoons were popular. Back in the day, any medium that had The Beatles on was a gift. My love for them is purely emotional and I treasure them.

My first thought last night was : “We could have AD40 overdub the cartoons. I’m sure she could come up with great storylines and one-liners.”

I watched a few episodes last night and I was reminded that the cartoon plots are a continuation of the premise of Help . The Beatles all live in the same house, they eat together, they travel together, they ski together, they bike together, etc… The cartoon perpetuates the same fantasy that for me holds such a strong appeal – of the Beatles as friends and mates!

I started watching the cartoon episodes again and I enjoy them this time around. I hated them the first try.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 Hell yeah!

Who knew dubbing it in Japanese would make the Beatles cartoon 10x better!! beatlemaniacs_02_gifa-hard-days-night-paul-11

Edit: Ngl, the way that George is giving Ringo a piggyback ride lowkey belongs in the Fifty Shades thread pattie-boyd_02_gifa-hard-days-night-john-3

Also, there was one point where Paul’s eyes opened through his cool psychedelic sunglasses. Wtf?!

And who says we have collectively wasted probably 100s of hours on the Beatles Bible Discord since it was created!??

During lockdown, the iconic SS? decided that a few of us would redub a Beatles cartoon episode. All participants were very excited and quickly sent in voice clips (I think we can agree von’s Ringo is practically identical to the original). Our version of George Martin, Holey, took on the task of remastering the audio (and a fine job he did of it too, especially with the appalling quality of video clips that some people sent in. Note: Holey will say it was me who sent in the terrible clips, don’t listen to him, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about). Holey also did a wonderful cover of Do You Want To Know A Secret played entirely by himself! (He’s multi-talented so he is).

With the initial buzz of sending in clips over, a lull which lasted weeks, potentially months set in where SS? was looking for us all to send in special effect clips. Probably about 4 months after we had initially sent in our first recordings, SS? and Holey slayed the beast and we present it to you all above.

A great hoorah to all participants, including LPD (who makes a wonderful chicken noise) and lovely Weepy, who despite the fact she had difficulties getting the house to herself, managed to successfully record her bits!

Hope you all enjoy it! a-hard-days-night-george-9
