NME article on the film
I think we all agree with this statement.
Jackson’s film had better include every second of footage from when they step onto the roof to when the filth drags them off, or we’re calling the police again.

Episode 16 of ‘The Beatles Anthology Revisited’ is a great source to get a balanced view of the ‘Get Back ‘ period straight from the Beatles and others around at the time. All four Beatles, that’s including Ringo, are down on the period in places but there are positive statements, some fun clips and great music as well.

Actually, I’m not in agreement here (surprise, surprise…;-)… I only just learned about the additional material played a couple of years back and subsequently sought out the audio, especially when I heard that ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ was played… I was disappointed (perhaps I’d built up high expectations) for the extra performances were merely snippets for the most part (‘God Save The Queen’ was the best “new” bit, in my opinion) and it changed my whole view of The Rooftop Concert forever afterwards… What was once for me a solid live “show” then became a live recording session for the song ‘Get Back ‘, of which there were multiple takes (atleast 3 maybe 4, if I remember correctly)…
I’m more concerned about the audio being altered, as it was for the original album and inferior ‘Naked’ project… the sound from the ‘Let It Be ‘ film for The Rooftop Concert, as released, is outstanding and brings a certain rawness that was later polished up and lost something indispensable, in my opinion… it sounded like a Beatleg which was also in line with their original vision for the ‘Get Back ‘ project… Everyone goes on about the studio overdubs (‘The Long And Winding Road ‘, in particular) ruining the album but I always thought the opposite… the live tracks were what really suffered from the overhaul, the film’s audio preserved the moment much better… I’m for extra footage before and after, and maybe a little inbetween, but the “show” should be edited down and not be made to look like just another recording session where the only difference is that they went outside…:-)

I wondered why people were discussing this. I missed that there is an actual release of Let it Be on the way as well as a new film. That’s good news.
Of course I have yet to finish listening to the White Album box. I still have two more discs to go. I think that’s because every time I see a Beatles fan criticize Yoko Ono I postpone listening to The Beatles a little more.

ET, you know the film footage of Yoko performing with the Beatles minus George? Do you think that could be a valuable addition to whatever Jackson assembles? I fantasize about seeing that stuff available for official viewing, but I have my doubts it will be…
(Fiddy, ExTex is quite likely the biggest Yoko booster around here!)
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I’d love to see that. Yoko is best thing about the Let It Be movie, in my opinion. More Yoko, less Paul.

It’s really kind of depressing. John is obviously just “yeah whatever” and not enjoying anything but Yoko, Ringo is just plain miserable, George is about to kill Paul, and Paul is just walking around oblivious to everything, listening to himself talk, being self-congratulatory and trying to run everything.

ET is being much too hard on Paul. He’s clearly having the most fun in the studio, and he delivers some sensational vocal performances. I personally find the movie to be a lot of fun to watch, despite the palpable tension in the band, which as blatant or noticeable as many people say. Watching it knowing the history definitely helps you clue into it more, but its still an enjoyable movie watching experience for any Beatles fan. I watched it for the first time with my dad and it was fantastic.

and there are those of us who’d say that he was going easy on him… no argument on him “clearly having the most fun” however, that much is evident… bless him for trying to rally the other troops while they were tired and weary from the war… someone had to pick up John’s slack for there weren’t to be anymore “Toppermost of The Poppermost” pep talks… Paul would have much more success a few months later when he reunited them all, including George Martin, for the ‘Abbey Road ‘ album… it’s to his credit that he was able to pull it off one last time with all of the chaos going on in their lives… George & Patti getting busted, Yoko’s most unfortunate pregnancy problems and not the least of which was the rapidly deteriorated business situation at Apple…:-)

! I hope we get to see footage of when Paul suggested they go on a cruise ship and be the house band a few months. The audio used to be on youtube. Everyone is basically like:
“No, Paul, we’re not getting on a boat”
“Yeah, but–“
“No.”
“:(“
I’m not even joking. That was a conversation that happened.

First ever post so please be gentle 🙂
I can’t understand why anyone would be negative about this as a project. Surely the more Beatles films the better. Also, there’s no denying that there were tensions but I’m not buying this narrative that they were at each other’s throats. That’s not what Mark Lewinsohn says.
As much as I’d like to see the whole roof top gig perhaps that should be a dvd/bluray extra due to the repetitive nature of the set list:
“The rooftop concert consisted of nine takes of five Beatles songs: three takes of “Get Back“; two takes each of “Don’t Let Me Down” and “I’ve Got a Feeling“; and one take each of “One After 909” and “Dig a Pony“. The set was performed in the following order:[15]
- “Get Back ” (take one)
- “Get Back ” (take two)
- “Don’t Let Me Down ” (take one)
- “I’ve Got A Feeling ” (take one)
- “One After 909 “
- “Dig A Pony “
- “I’ve Got A Feeling ” (take two)
- “Don’t Let Me Down ” (take two)
- “Get Back ” (take three)”
