Watching this again as ill and it means I don’t have to suffer normal TV when the football is on.
Definitely things being noticed that I didn’t last time and it seems to go by faster this time, maybe less conscious of the duration of the episodes. By far the greatest thrill of the entire escapade is George returning, it’s so pleasing to read of him returning to Twickenham to see Glyn on the 15th and then see him at Apple – makes me wonder if there could have been a reunion in the 70’s if three had been wanting and had gone to the other.
And my brain still gets a pleasure and exclamation jolt when the realisation hits of John, Paul, George and Ringo being together on the screen, in whatever combination.

Was watching the second part the other day. Love when the play Madman. Love the rawnes of the arrangement. It could have been a very cool Lennonesque song a la Glass Onion , or something like that.

At the end of the second disc after getting the Blu Ray box set for Xmas. The bit that I sat up at was Billy Preston arriving at Apple. The documentary states he just dropped by to say hello having been in England on some TV promotion work having known them since Hamburg days. This totally contradicts that George asked for him as a condition of coming back which has always been accepted knowledge. Very much enjoying it, although the real shame is that almost all the songs so far are fragmentary, there’ s hardly anything complete, and we know there were plenty of tracks with a complete run through, which would be great for an extended version if it ever emerges. One of the few seemingly complete tracks (over the end titles) is “The Palace of the King of the Birds”, though can’t recall a version with both keyboard and piano – is this a hybrid? The highlight of the full unexpurgated rooftop concert is yet to come, and that’s where the real interest lies for me.

Finally found time to watch the third disc uninterrupted. Let me say that I feel if not the greatest technical live performance ever it’s the No.1 iconic performance to me, ahead of even Queen at Live Aid. Knowing it from Let It Be when what was edited to look largely like a totally miserable and claustrophobic experience I’ve always thought as they finally emerge on the roof it’s like a weight lifted and completely joyous. To finally see the full concert from multiple angles I’m not ashamed to say it overpowered me – I wept tears of joy throughout. If I had one complaint it’s that I could have done without the vox pops again, just showing the street scenes and the police arriving in silence would have set the context. If I had a second complaint it’s that those cameras aren’t individually selectable. Maybe when/if an extended box featuring full performances throughout where available will allow upgrade. This performance is worth the cost of the box alone IMO. Full of envy for those people on neighbouring roofs – if I had a time machine that would be first choice destination.

I got sent the film this morning and am now halfway through episode one. It’s interesting and im definitely learning lots about the band, the songwriting process, ect. Its sad though because everything about it seems so disconnected. Ive learned a lot about being a good leader from Paul. He handles conflict very well. He solves problems instead of arguing and i could definitely input that into my life. Thank you paul. Sometimes i want to cry while watching it because… well i really dont know. i feel like i am taking this too deep, i am not crazy i am just passionate about my favourite band
im so tired that why this post is so poorly written.

Am I remembering correctly? I don’t think we see Paul performing Let It Be . We hear him in the background. We only really hear the song as the credits are rolling at the end.
In the original movie, we see Paul sitting at the piano and playing it. (Of course, the movie IS called Let It Be .)
P Jackson said he didn’t want to use ANY of the clips used by M Lindsay-Hogg in his movie. Did P Jackson go too far?

Well, we do hear and see several partial rehearsals and performances of “Let It Be ” throughout the eight hours of Get Back , even if no full complete takes are presented. (And Jackson did say that he would’ve liked to not reuse any footage from ML-H’s film, but he recognized that was an unrealistic goal if he wanted “Get Back ” to tell its story properly.)
Me, I’m OK with not seeing the January 31 master-take performances in full again, since they did already appear in ML-H’s film, and they weren’t even all terribly exciting visually, anyways. (Plus it’s always irked me how Paul regularly looks directly into the camera lens during “Let It Be ” and “Long Winding Road” Something about his unsmiling seriousness, combined with the solemnity of those two songs, and the closeups of Paul seemingly looking right at me…I dunno, I just find those performances uncomfortable to watch, for whatever reason. (Even though I’m still glad they’re on film, and wouldn’t want them to be unavailable to view; I do hope the plan to reissue the LIB film isn’t forgotten about.)

I have a feeling Apple certainly wants to do the remaster and reissue of the original film, but there might be some issues to work out with Disney. I imagine that also includes the matter of Jackson’s director’s cut. If Disney is not interested in doing that, theoretically, Apple could renegotiate the deal and buy out physical home video rights from Disney to issue the 17-hour cut on Blu-ray, while leaving Disney the sole distributor of the 8-hour cut to remain on Disney+.
At this point, if Now And Then is really going to be the new “final” Beatles song released thanks to Paul’s employing machine learning to achieve what he always wanted, then this means that Jackson’s full cut isn’t quite dead, and Apple could have sufficient bargaining power.

I am late on this but wanted to share: I just noticed that for whatever reason I forgot to watch Episode 3 of GB. It just got lost. So yesterday I took my Bose headphones and my Ipady when my gf was asleep next to me and watched the last Episode.
The start is just a continuation of the GB sessions with lots of great jamming scenes and, what I loved very much, 4 very good connected and friendly Beatles. Their deep strong friendship shined through in many many scenes and even when they were discussing the roof top concert they were genuine and respectfull. The whole narrative of them falling apart during the whole GB session shot doesnt hold up after watching this.
Coming around to the concert: thats the bread and budder of the episode. Its marvelous. For them not beeing so fond of it beforehand they really enjoying themselves through the whole show. Its amazing how they get into and rock this rooftop and just beeing the band again they were when they started. John and Paul share such great chemistry during the gig and George, who was the most against it, was so into it he reactivtated the Amp when Mal Evens switched it off because of the police. I liked how the concert was cut with crowd reactions and what I found great was how most of them really enjoyed it. I’d wish for an alterantive version with ONLY the fab four beeing shown allthrough the concert.
I’d say would they have gotten back to more concerts and shows they could have really got back to their roots and enjoy themselves more. The fact that they stuck in studios recording over and over really was one of the problems which caused bad mood in my opinion. BUT apparently they could have moved on. George even said he would like to do a record for himself alone but stay with the Beatles. The big rift came through Alan Klein though and John wanting to leave for good. If those two things would not have happend I can imagine they would have stayed together longer and doing more stuff together. The all in all bad mood that was told us over decaded wasnt there, at least for me. When they got to Apple they really came back to a more genuine fun friendship at least that was how I saw it!
Great Show. I’d wish for more recording session footage of other LPs and nice remastered releases of early concerts and stuff. Jackson as the tools to do it!

E is for ergent, right? That was over five years ago. At least they got there in the end.

I am thinking about watching get back, but I don’t really have the time to watch it. I asked my friend if I should watch all of it. He said just watch the first and third episodes because the second is boring.
Could someone tell me what goes on in the second episode and if I should skip it. I’d like to watch the whole thing but I don’t have the time to.
Thank you

The second episode is my favorite. They move into Apple studios and add Billy Preston to the lineup. By the end of the first episode the band is bogged down by the rehearsals, and its easy to feel the same. Its a really ambitious undertaking, and the development of the songs feels like it is moving at a really slow pace. Then they start playing with Billy at Apple and there is a new life breathed into all of the songs. You realize that they’ve actually succeeded in writing a phenomenal batch of songs, they just didn’t have the right energy or arrangement when being played at Twickenham. The best moment in the whole series is when the roll tape for the take of Get Back that ended up becoming the single. If you’re worried about not having enough time to watch the whole thing, break it into pieces. When the title card comes up for a new day of rehearsals, pause and come back another time if youre feeling burned out. If you want to watch it, dont skip episode two, its great.

I assume you mean a version where the don’t show any of the interviews or follow the police up to the rooftop? Definitely would be nice, but only the fab FOUR? My biggest complaint is we never get to see enough Billy Preston on the rooftop.

Very good point – even when we see still photos of the entire stage, Billy is usually invisible, tucked into that corner the way he is. I’ve wondered if there were concerns about the weight of his Fender piano on the rooftop, resulting in a decision to keep it close to a supporting wall to minimize the downward pressure near the centre of gravity (whether that’s scientifically sound or not, I dunno)

They put decking across the whole roof to support the weight of everything, they needed it to support the camera gear and lights as well. The amps were just as heavy as a Rhodes. I’ve lugged Fender Deluxe Twins, they’re awful but comparable to my AC15 which means AC30’s are really bad. That piano is a tiny model compared to the later ones which were heavier yet they could have easily been supported but probably been awkward to get up there.
