I really felt the lack of dialog there. They must have had *some* conversations about what they were doing, or something. It felt very alienating actually, after the intimacy of the rest of it.

[I have only watched Parts 1 & 2, and am saving Part 3 (with the rooftop performance) …]
[…One question I wanted to throw out there: can anyone give any insight into Peter Sellers’ visit? Was that scene as awkward and uncomfortable as I felt it to be, or did I misread the situation? When Sellers arrived, I was wowed and was excited to hear some interaction and dialog. Instead, wha…]
I felt the same, it was so awkward! in a film not short on awkward moments it was like a scene from The Office. Sellers hated the expectation that he was going to be funny all the time, when a lot of the time he was anything but funny or even happy in his own skin. I agree John made it worse in the film. They all loved the Goons and for all of Seller’s involvement with Beatles’ spoofs it was still Spike Milligan that John admired most. I think Ringo and George were closer to Sellers.
Perhaps if Spike Milligan had walked in too, we would have seen a different reaction from John, with a mini Goons sketch ending in anarchy.
The impression I had of that bit is that the Beatles are all deeply unhappy and scared (George might have left for real, and they can’t even talk to him about it because he’s away). And they seem to have been staged by MLH to be maximally On Camera. The aside near the end when Paul says “too much for you Peter?” hints that they would normally be much more comfortable in one another’s presence, but he doesn’t know how to interact with the utterly bizarre situation of them making themselves have this crisis in such exposed way.
I think John became quite nervous when meeting people he respected and felt he had to appear smarter or funnier. He frequently “mouthed off” to the point of being quite obnoxious on occasion. He had a good sense of humour but it was generally of a mocking and scathing nature. John was probably not as funny as he thought he was and was certainly no comedian.
He truly met his match on the Morecambe and Wise show when he attempted to “outwit” Eric Morecambe. It was an absolute pleasure to see the spontaneous explosion of laughter from all four Beatles when Eric Morecambe gave his retort. A genuinely wonderful comedian in his prime.
I apologise if I’ve drifted “off topic” and have posted the whole show. The part I mentioned comes in at 7 min 45 secs.

One of my favourite scenes is the look on Mal Evans’ face when he provides the sound of Maxwells silver hammer. So much joy and concentration in those two bangs. After all, who gets to perform on a Beatles track? … Wonderful moment, wonderful man….

The Daily Beatle reports that a change has been made to the ‘Get Back ‘ documentary to correctly identify Ivan Vaughn; for some reason he was called Gene Mahon. Maybe one day they will correct the errors in the opening recap of Beatles history.

Indeed – seeing that animated “Yellow Submarine ” clip misleadingly dated to 1966 annoys me everytime.

It was nice and unexpected to see Yoko chatting with George Martin, asking his advice in obtaining classical scores. I’m wondering if this led her to buy the sheet music for Beethoven’s “Moonlight” to better understand how to play it backwards ala “Because “…

Many of the things I was going to write about Sir Peter Jackson’s talk during the IMAX event are included in the link mmm posted .Jackson held his iPad up to the camera so he could show us how he synced up the video of all the cameras with the audio. So. Much.
Work. Fun!The story of getting the music mixed for IMAX was interesting – it had to be done a special way for the optimum IMAX experience. It was done at Twickenham Studios (https://www.twickenhamstudios……nd-by-tfs/ ) which Jackson mentioned made the whole project come round full circle. The DVD/Blu-ray will have sound by TFS also.
He said that we were lucky because he would never get to see the movie on an IMAX screen.
With everything being so giant on the IMAX screen, small details just popped out more like the yellow flowers in flower boxes and the clothing some of the ladies were wearing when they ran out to see the performance – no coats and short mini skirts. I guess just seeing the Beatles kept them warm. I wonder who those older ladies were that were really talking up a storm and pointing things out. I just want to watch the whole thing again on an IMAX screen with the ability to pause it and soak in every detail.
There was one scene where a cameraman was behind the Beatles and he didn’t film for quite a bit. He just stood there. I wonder if he just got lost in the moment and then shook out of it and started filming again or if he really wasn’t supposed to be filming at that time.
That “hidden” camera and George Martin’s face when he looked into it! So funny!
I don’t know why my brain had to have this thought while watching the movie – if I were one of the Beatles I couldn’t have done the rooftop concert because my nose would have been running the whole time. It’s an unstoppable faucet when it gets cold.
The film will be shown again in some IMAX theatres in the US February 9-20. https://www.imax.com/movies/be…..op-concert

Hopefully they’re taking the time to have all those silly errors fixed. I *really* hope the delay doesn’t damp enthusiasm for releasing an extended edition.

Hm, I got the impression that they were fed lines and coached to laugh excessively at those silly scripted bits about “hairy legs” and “Hello Bongo!” and all that, for good television

Saw the ‘Rooftop Concert’ in the cinema earlier today and obviously watching the Beatles on the big screen is always a fantastic experience. I’ve only seen the documentary once (I struggle to have any desire to watch long programmes/films at home and having seen it already doesn’t help) but was the footage after the concert when they are listening to the performance different? Didn’t remember a lot of it.
Bizarrely it gave the impression the more acoustic/softer numbers were recorded later on the same day when it was done the following day. But that’s minor.
All four were having a blast but I recognised Ringo beating the living hell out of his drums more this time around, and Jimmy the doorman (if that’s his position) made it to the roof at the end. Plus the delight all four had at seeing the police had turned up is so cool; John was having a serious WTF moment when his amp got turned off, George just turned it back on.
